Powerful Extratropical Cyclone Develops

Up to now the low has deepened to 995MB, and it will continue to do so as you can see in the first image. It's probable that in the next hours, an eye-like feature will appear in the center of the storm. Very powerful, but nothing to tropical about it!

Its becoming serparated from the parent front..if this low was over warmer SST's we would be looking at STS Arlene. Its got some warm core features now but they wont last long.

The only possibility for the cyclone to get some tropical characteristics is if the low would head south, but that would probably not happen.

Wow. That doe's looks like it has developed a more tropical core. It appears to be alot like the perfect storm.

Remember systems like this can develop a extratropical overall. But develop tropical center. We need more data. The nhc would never upgrade this because of the cold core/extratropical part. They did not even upgrade the unknown hurricane of 1991.


I don't went to jump the gun but this maybe slightly subtropical. :roll:

Also with the reports of 65 to 70 mph winds over land. With that eye, I would not be suprized, if this baby packed 80 mph winds.

This looks like a the Perfect storm to me.

I'm starting to think that it is a Hurricane with in a extratropical system. Kind of like the perfect storm.

It is a spectacular sight! You can literally see the power of the storm, it just jumps out at you. I would not want to be stuck out there in the middle of it. WOW............... The majesty of mother nature.

There's some pretty good convection trying to wrap around the center ...

The upper air environment is cyclonic, though, so any outflow trying to develop will have to fight that environment. I this thing were further south over warmer waters, I'd say it had a shot. but where it is, I think it's doubtful.

It's moving out of the warmer part of the Gulf Stream over about 20C (68F) water now. Not much chance to go STS now. Just a nor'easter.

Its starting to move out of the Gulf steam. It is starting to weaken. The overall temperatures differnce that formed the cyclone is falling apart.

It was good in its best, it really looked as a powerful extropical cyclone, probably its climax has passed.

Only Accu-weather can make a statement like that. Sometimes I wonder about Accu-weather.
