UPDATED: 11:12 am PDT May 10, 2005
PINE VALLEY, Calif. -- Riverside County sheriff's deputies responded to a home on Devils Ladder Road in the small town of Pine Meadow Tuesday morning and found six people dead in their home. Two sources confirmed to NBC4 that the victims are a Riverside County district attorney's investigator and family members. Earlier, reports identified the victims as a deputy district attorney's family.
The Riverside County sheriff's office received a call from the house at about 4:30 a.m. and sent two patrol units from the department's Hemet station, authorities said. The deputies found the victims when they arrived at the home.
NBC4 said the victims were the district attorney's investigator, his mother, his wife and three children. Police told NBC4 that the suspected killer is a family member, but they did not say if any of the deaths was a suicide.
The district attorney's investigator was a former Cathedral City police officer, according to NBC4.
NBC's Mary Parks said the ranch home where the bodies were found is located in rural southeast Riverside County, in an area known as Garner Valley. It's located off Highway 74, south of Hemet and east of Temecula.
Check back for updates as they become available.
