The ER thread

#1 Postby GalvestonDuck » Thu Mar 31, 2005 11:36 am

From TVGuide.com

CHECKING OUT: The prognosis is not good: ER's only remaining original cast member, Noah Wyle, will be hanging up his stethoscope in the NBC drama's May 19 season finale, according to USA Today. However, he will bring back his fresh-scrubbed alter ego, Dr. John Carter, to County General four times a year for the next two seasons. So much for making a clean break.

Oh Shawn, I bet you are upset! Add the fact that Third Watch was cancelled and this is not good news for you at all.

What really makes it hard is that Third Watch got moved to Fridays, opposite JAG. And now BOTH OF THEM are being cancelled this season. So, somehow, some way, I have to figure out a way to see how Mac and Harm get together on JAG (something I've been hoping for for years)
Image and IF Faith and Bosco get together on Third Watch

without missing either of them.

Ya think Harm and Mac will ever get together, and "do the deed?" They're the ultimate romantic couple--almost out of a Victorian novel.

Well, they'll certainly do something about it in the series finale. :) Maybe not "the deed" but at least a kiss!

The only other times they've kissed that I'm certain about are 1) when he was imagining her as Lt. Diane Schonke in a flashback to a previous episode (when Tracy Needham was still playing Lt (jg) Meg Austin and where Catherine Bell DID play the character before landing her recurring role as Mac), 2) in a dream sequence where she was in a towel :D , and 3) under the mistletoe during a Christmas party at Bud and Harriet's. And as far as I'm concerned, none of those times really counts.

I love that show :P Hope Mac and Harm get married. It would help ease the pain of no more J.A.G.

My parents used to watch ER every week and now they don't even mention anything about it(and haven't for a couple of years). I think all the cast changes have turned them away.

What am I going to do????

First and foremost Farscape was cancelled...don't laugh, I loved that show.

Then Third Watch was cancelled....I don't understand that..all those Law & Order shows are too much, cancel one of those things.

and now JAG, Harm and Mac have to get together, its been five years since their agreement...she better get her stuff together and snatch him up!!!

I am sad....all my favorite shows are down the tubes or is it off the tube :) !!

I'm in mourning too - not so much for John Carter's (Noah Wyle) loss but for the beloved, old ER I loved so much! Watching occasional reruns right now on TNT (they're closing in on Season 2 I believe or about to begin Season 3). If not for that, Mark/Carol/Doug/Benton might all be a distant dream or memory. I get to see my favorite ER characters (Mark Greene being #1) every single day if I want.

But it's not the same. I don't see ER ending anytime soon. It is one ensemble drama that has weathered the loss of so many former core characters. Can't imagine Cheers without Sam/Woody/Carla/Norm/Cliff or Frasier w/o Frasier/Niles/Daphne/Marty, can you?

It is amazing it's still chugging right along. That said, ER is no longer must-see-TV, for me. I still watch but if I just don't have time to watch some of my shows, never thought I'd say this, ER would on a list of weekly shows I could pass up. ER writers blew it when they killed off Mark Greene. What is Anthony Edwards doing career wise anyhow, to qualify as a good reason to leave this show? We all know Clooney's been busy......Julianne M. some also. But I haven't seen AE's name much.

Just glad they're not killing off Carter.

One final note - Susan is an original cast member but I guess since Sherry Stringfield left ER for a few years, coming back later, she no longer qualifies as an original cast member? I beg to differ on that.

Isn't Weaver an original too? Wasn't she the original chief of emergency medicine? I've only been an ER regular for a few years though.... I still enjoy the show, don't get me wrong, but the past was better. I'll be said to see Carter go to....

No Carrie came in later she wasn't original. She was just a ER doc at first then took over from what's his name that got his arm cut off by the helicopter and then got squashed by one too.

I watch occasionally but not like I did before they killed off Mark Green....that was too sad!!!

Mary's correct - Kerry Weaver came in later. Either late in Season 1 or the beginning of Season 2. I want to say 2 since I was watching nearly every episode from Season 1 recently on TNT (Love's Labor Lost, When Everything Old is New Again, etc.). At Carol's wedding, I don't recall seeing Kerry at the reception or previously at work, stuck there b/c she wasn't invited. That's another reason why I think she came on in Season 2.

Mark Greene was always the absoulute core/center of that show. When Benton should have been Carter's ethical/moral/medical mentor, and wasn't, Greene stepped up. Greene led the ER a lot, in bedside manner/attitude/ethics.

I miss him too Mary and was very surprised the writers chose to have him die. Being a former Soap Vet, I honestly thought they'd just write him out, having his character move out of town. Not die on us! We also lost Lizzie in the process (eventually). And Rachel and Ella.

But I think the core or rock of that show died when Mark Greene died. I will always have this opinion. I wanted one male character to step into his shoes after his departure, but it didn't happen. At the time, I thought Carter was poised for this position. Afterall he chose Emergency Med over Surgery, that was saying a lot for his bedside manner. I still say also, the writers blew it when they didn't move Carter more to the front or have him involved in many storylines as Mark was.

Hope I'm making some sense here!

Made perfect sense to me Mary. I too think ER more or less died when Mark did. Thought that Carter and Abbie would step up to the plate, but that didn't happen. They tried bringing Susan back and putting her there, but she was pg so that took her away shortly after her return. I hated that Elizabeth left she brought a lot to the show. Oh well....what can you say, they don't ask us do they.

A little off the subject in a way, but I still can't believe they killed Edmund off on All My Children...just blows me away every time I think about it!

Yeah, Elizabeth was the best looking out of the whole slew of women they've had on the show. No fair that they've had George, Noah, Goran, and whatever other male leads on the show that *ahem* most women have drooled over. Where are the good looking women?

Haven't watched Thursday's ep yet...been so dang busy around here. After reading over at TV Guide's watercooler column, that next week's promo's just about made the reviewer ball or get out kleenex, seeing her former beloved and favorite ER character of all time (mine too!) Mark Greene, I decided to back up my tape and watch the promos.

And I did start to cry....that narrator's voice, hushed and all does it every time. Started tearing up when he said there was something special about Carter from the very beginning.

Oh yes there was! Hate, just hate, that he's leaving....

Bump......think I'm going to watch ER live tonight. I'll record too in case they show some clips of when ER started. And of course I'll keep the tissues handy...

This is going to be a rough one to get thru.
