Since I'm hitting 55 next month, my list of early TV memories goes WAY BACK:
-Howdy Doody;
-(The Original) Romper Room;
-Captain Kangaroo (especially the Tom Terrific episodes -- or was that a separate show?);
-Chicago local favorites including:
-The Two-Ton Baker Show (which was replaced by Lunchtime with Uncle Buckyand then Ringmaster Ned and THEN Bozo Circus);
-Kukla, Fran, and Ollie (fairly famous -- national? -- puppet show);
-Garfield Goose (local puppet show);
-The Cinnamon Bear (local puppets, a Christmas show, only shown in December, adapted from a radio serial from the 40's);
-Princess Mary's Magic Castle
I also remember my mom doing housework and watching/listening to
-Queen for a Day;
-The Spring Byington Show;
-Our Miss Brooks;
-The Gale Storm Show;
-The Loretta Young Show.
And, yes, I still remember watching the ORIGINAL episodes of
-I Love Lucy,
-Father Knows Best,
-Make Room for Daddy,
-American Bandstand (Philly),
-The Ed Sullivan Show!

All of the above, plus "The Edge of Night" (mother was addicted to "soaps"), "The Honeymooners", "Ten from Your Show of Shows", "The Steve Allen Show", "The Twilight Zone", and the original "Dragnet" (late Sunday evenings)...also a spin-off of the movie "The Vikings", just after Jack Webb's efforts.

Well, growing up Cincinnati, we had many, many local shows begin right here.
Paul Dixon, who a very young David Letterman would watch with his mother, after skipping school! Yes Letterman took many of his ideas from this former, beloved local talk show.
Skipper Ryle - a Sunday morning, kids show. I was on it once.
Uncle Al - a young version of Skipper Ryle. I was also on it. But Uncle Al and his wife, were not so nice to kids off camera. Impatient, mean, never really into kids. Which we all thought odd, b/c it was a kids show! To this very day people say this about Uncle Al - it was fun to be on his show but he was an unusual choice for host, for a kids show.
Larry Smith Puppets - loved his Hattie the Witch rendition. Suddenly kids all over Cincinnati wanted to do their own puppet shows, rearranging furniture so they could hide behind the family's couch. We didn't have formal living rooms and family rooms back then. One room, one couch, one TV. That was usually placed against a wall.
Cool Ghoul - a late night ghoul who would narrate awful Sci-Fi movies, but it was hilarious stuff. So pre-teens on tuned in.
Bob Shreve - never got into his show.
50/50 Club - another daytime local talk show. Filled with female audience members, dressed to their finest, up to Easter Day standards...my mom must have gone once but she preferred Paul Dixon over the 50/50 Club anyday, which is very much like comparing Leno to Letterman today.
Here's a link for former, local Cincinnati shows:

At one time, Cincinnati was on the brink of being a major player in early TV.
National shows I recall watching are Andy Griffith, Bewitched, Gilligan's Island, the Flintstones.

Maybe I saw you on it!
You just might have! All I remember is they were advertising Barq's soda-pop, in 8 packs. Mix and match (wasn't that a great marketing idea?). And Mama's cookies. You sat there waiting, waiting, hoping to be on camera or talked to. Meanwhile your mother is sitting off the side, camera in hand. Giving you those looks as if to say - behave! Oh please behave! That's about all I can remember....probably have the pic, somewhere, someplace. LOL
