Different ritual behavior?
My husband and I went to St Marks Mational Wildlife Refuge to take pics with his new 500mm lens. We walked down to an area of beach and sat a while. This younger guy, I'm guessing he was in his 20s or 30s, all dressed in white (linen pants, t-shirt) came down to the water, started splashing water on himself (it WAS hot) and then took a jar of molasses out of his pocket and started smearing it all over his clothes, his skin, his head. Wow. I was fascinated. I had never seen anything like that before. Can anyone tell me what the significance of it is? Thanks.

I used to see people covered in motor oil all the time at the psych unit. They told me it was to keep the aliens from finding them and taking them away. Perhaps he was trying to attract bees for some reason.

Enjoy the 500mm. Is that 35mm, digital, or what?
35mm. He cant quite get into digital yet. Nikon has a new one but there are some problems with it apparently. He uses mostly slide film.
After some hours of digging on the internet, I found a couple of references where some African -Americans smeared molasses (and other substances) on themselves to celebrate freedom from enslavement. There was only one reference and it was vague, at best.

Very weird indeed. We have a guy here that paints his face black with shoe polish and walks all around town, and another guy that jogs in a pink tutu ( almost wrecked the truck the first time I saw that.) I am beginning to wonder if these two are having some kind of contest to see who can act the most bizzare.

It doesn't get any better than a good old 35mm with Kodachrome 25! I enjoy shooting pics too, but I'm equipment, time, and money poor. I have boxes of slides from years ago. I don't even know if you can still get Kodachrome.

Donna! Hows that for a how-do-you-do? I assure you that my skin-tight lycra bike shorts provide full coverage of all crucial elements. And I wear a Jersey too.
Anyone that wears a thong while biking is 1. not a serious biker, 2) is an exhibitionist, and 3) probably isn't that much to look at anyway.
Of course if it was a female, I might follow her a while to see if she's any good.
