Any New LASTING TV Lines or Characters?

#1 Postby azskyman » Mon May 16, 2005 9:29 pm

Well...tis the season of "season endings" on television. Last episodes have been running rampant. Some leave the door open for future possibilities. Others close forever (or until they come back in some other life form).

Over the years some of the best shows are remembered for lines (you bet your bippy!) and characters (a guy named Kramer) that can last a lifetime.

What are some of your favorite lines and characters...and will there be any of each coming from this past season's shows that survive the test of time?

Probably b/c Everybody Loves Raymond just wrapped up, but Peter Boyle's "Holy C*ap!" line comes to mind. When I hear it in the future I will think of Frank Barone.

Much the same way Joey on Friends said "How you doin'?" or Janice said "Oh My God!".

Didn't Paul on Mad About You always start conversations with "Here's the thing....." or am I thinking of a different character?

That's all I have right now! Ask me in the morning, more might come to me!

I LOVE Joey's "How you doin?"! and yeah, who can hear "Holy Crap" and not think of Frank. Janice's "Oh My God!" is so completely unique to her, and that voice that I don't think of her when I hear the phrase but only when I hear her say it or her voice anywhere! lol

"yada yada yada" always makes me think of Elaine and I know there's more but that's what came to mind right away.

Not that any of these necessarily ever stood alone as household phrases, but they're faves that come to mind when a person mentions these favorite shows of mine:

"By-eeeeeee" - Patty Lane on "The Patty Duke Show"
"I just had another one of my brilliant ideas!" - Blair on "The Facts of Life"
"There's gonna be troub-l-l-l-l-e" - Tootie on "The Facts of Life"
"Rampart...this is Squad 51." - either Johnny or Roy on "Emergency"
"Kiss my grits!" - Flo on "Alice"
"Sit on it, Potsie" - half the cast on "Happy Days"
"Hello, Angels" - Charlie on "Charlie's Angels"
"Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!" - Jan on "Brady Bunch"
"De plane! De plane!" - Tattoo on "Fantasy Island"
"Let's be careful out there." Esterhaus on "Hill Street Blues"
"Oh, boy" - Sam on just about every episode of "Quantum Leap"
"Holy _(whatever)_, Batman!" - Robin on "Batman"
"Wondertwin powers...activate!" - Zach and...um...the other twin on "Superfriends"
"Back in St. Olaf..." - Rose on "Golden Girls"
"Buuuud" - Rudi on "The Cosby Show"
"Sit, Ubu, sit...good dog!" - the end of "Family Ties" credits
"By the power of Greyskull!" - He-Man
"I'm crushing your head!" - weird dude on "Kids In The Hall"
"How rude!" and "I'm doomed!" - Stephanie on "Full House"
"Shaz-bot!" - Mork on "Mork & Mindy"
"I'll carry your books, I'll carry a torch, I'll carry a tune, I'll carry on, carry over, carry forward, Cary Grant, cash and carry, carry me back to Old Virginia, I'll even 'hari-kari' if you show me how, but I will not carry a gun!" - Hawkeye on "M*A*S*H"
Xena's battle cry
It's not quite TV, but...."Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars" - Casey Kasem on the AT40 countdown
"In the criminal justice system, sexually-based offenses are considered especially heinous. In New York City, the elite detectives who investigate these vicious felonies are members of an elite squad, known as the Special Victims Unit. These are their stories." - opening for "Law & Order: SVU"
"And I...am...outta here!" - Dennis Miller signing off from the newsdesk on SNL

"Back in St. Olaf...." - Golden Girls! Every single time Rose would start off a story from back home, you knew it would be wacky, funny, great. Loved that show.

Oh yeah! I also remember Paul jutting his open hand out, turning it, and saying stuff like "This is what I'm saying!"

Those are GOOOOD ones already.

Kinda nostalgic as the seasons wind down and the heat cranks up here in Phoenix. This is our "stay in the house" time down here (101 today!).

"Did I Do That?" from Steve Urkel(Jaleel White) from Family Matters. When they made him into Stefan and the 1,000 other people, the show lost me.
