Lorida, outside of Sebring, should be here too. One of my husband's employees said that you can "only trust family members" when commenting on the area's tendency to keep it in the family - even though she was going on her third marriage to another cousin.

Lake Placid might be eligible for this list although it's not hick in the Dukes of Hazzard sense. It's down the road a piece (rt 27)from Sebring and Lorida and stuck in the days before the civil war. They condone slavery; National Geographic did an expose on it back in September of 2003. The flower shop that was the front of the slave trade (Mexican illegals who were forever in their coyote's debt and living in shacks in the middle of the groves) is *still* in business. None of the locals cared, including law enforcement who didn't much like the FBI sniffing around them thar parts for so long.

Now Okeechobee definitely fits the hick list! It was the best hick town we've ever been in and I miss it. I never saw chaps and spurs worn to the grocery store before. Never saw a horse go through a drive-through liquor store either until I lived there

Freeport, Florida could qualify as a contender.
