ABC World News tonight - Weather Data

#1 Postby SkeetoBite » Wed May 18, 2005 6:14 pm

Apparently there will be a story on ABC World News tonight discussing the Senate Bill seeking to redefine the role of the NWS, NOAA, et al. I have been unable to independently confirm this yet, but I'll be watching.

This may be tomorrow night. I'll give an update as soon as I have more data.

Hopefully ABC does a better job of vetting their stories than CBS.

I saw it and thought it was good. Basically they said what I have heard in this forum, it is our money paying for the services, the person that sponsored the bill has several private weather services in his state. They interviewed a democrat from Florida who was very opposed to it. It was in the "Your money" section of their news, and basically focused on the fact that our tax dollars went to it, and we should have access to it. So definately did not give much support to the issue. They did interview the person sponsoring the bill, but they cut out so much of the interview with him, that I don't think he made his point very well (but then again, I have strong opinions about it, so maybe I was spitting at the TV too loud to hear much of what he said).

I was able to watch it - and Sanotorum came across as a politicing idiot.

"I don't think the government should compete with industry and this
affects hundreds of jobs in my state"

He's from Pennsylvania, home of eight private weather companies, including Accuweather, Unisys, and others.

He was rightfully portrayed as an evil minion.

Two points for ABC.

Who launched the geostationary weather satellites? If I remember correctly it was the American Taxpayer. When accuweather launches its own rockets then they can claim the data which is rightfully mine. I will surrender my right to the information when it endangers the common defense but not for some corporate swine.

Uhm Rick - then where did those jobs come from if it was affecting jobs in your state? You're serving a corporate master at the expense of American taxpayers. Who's he trying to kid? It's helping corporate entities screw taxpaying Americans out of our money twice. It's unreal. Whoever ends up running against him, former Governor Casey's son or whoever, send them a $5 or $10 web contribution. None of us outside of Pennsylvia can vote, but we can certainly help our voices be heard.

You can count on my wife and both voting to outst Sanotorum in 2006. We are both Skywarn observers and use the National Weather Service website daily. I use it more often, but she always goes there to get the weather information. I don't know how good it will be to write to him to complain about this bill he has proposed. I have considered writing Senators Liberman and Dodd from CT, since I use to live there and have written to them in the past, but I do not know how much they would listen to me because I am not one of their constitutes (sp?) anymore.

Oh, don't worry, I'm sending $20 to whoever his opponet is. People
with this mindset do not need to be in elected office.

What's next Rick? Privatize the Military, and they only fight for citizens
that pay extra for this service?

What's that dork's e-mail address? I want to write him a letter regarding this issue.

I think he's a lost cause - anybody that wants taxpayers to pay twice for weather data is likely clinically insane.

But thank you for writing him, JOIN THE FIGHT!!!!
