This is a "breaking alert" from Fox News; Israel is declaring a "state of emergency" re: a jetliner with 294 passengers aboard trying to land w/o gear...

Because there's no way of knowing that the landing gear has properly deployed or if it's a bad indicatior light. It routine procedure to do that.

Hit the nail on the head. Not sure why this was breaking news, happens pretty frequently. I guess the networks didn't know that when it happened, however.

Yeah... initially it sounded a lot worse. State of Emergency + no landing gear +300 people is a formula for disaster(had it all been true).
