...RECORD HEAT TO CONTINUE ON SUNDAY...

AN UNSEASONABLY STRONG UPPER LEVEL HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM HAS DEVELOPED
OVER WEST TEXAS AND WILL BRING RECORD HEAT TO NORTH TEXAS AGAIN ON
SUNDAY.  HIGH TEMPERATURES ON SUNDAY WILL REACH THE UPPER 90S ACROSS
NORTH TEXAS...WITH HEAT INDEX VALUES APPROACHING 105 DEGREES.  THESE
FORECASTED TEMPERATURES SHOULD BREAK THE DAILY RECORDS FOR BOTH
DALLAS FORT WORTH AND WACO ON SUNDAY.

BECAUSE THIS IS THE FIRST EPISODE OF HOT WEATHER THIS YEAR...
RESIDENTS ARE REMINDED TO REDUCE OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES...DRINK LOTS OF
WATER OR OTHER NON-ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES...WEAR LIGHT COLORED/LIGHT
WEIGHT CLOTHING...AND IF POSSIBLE SPEND MORE TIME IN AIR CONDITIONED
OR WELL VENTILATED AREAS.

REMEMBER THAT CHILDREN...THE ELDERLY...AND PEOPLE WITH
CHRONIC AILMENTS ARE USUALLY THE FIRST TO SUFFER FROM THE HEAT.

It officially hit 96 degrees today, downright scorcher for any time of the year much less in May! This is gonna be one heck of a summer with a worsening drought and temps now consistently in the 90's.

It's HOT HOT HOT here....KATC recorded 100° today but luckily the humidity is low...33%. It could feel much worse.

Our only chance of rain is Tuesday with <20% chance.

It was only supposed to reach 93° or 94° today - set a record at 97°. Like PT posted, the previous record was 94° 100 years ago.

N of Houston at Lake Conroe. It was near 100 yesterday. Truely amazing heat for this time of year. Not just TX either.

It was 100º in my yard here in W Houston. Looks like more record highs today and maybe Monday too. We had relatives at an outdoor wedding W of San Antonio yesterday. I can't even imagine it!!!

Meanwhile... we are enduring our NINTH day in a row with showers... many of those days have featured thunderstorms as well. Today we have seen both crystal clear blue skies and torrential rain!!

Most places around the Seattle area have received from 3 - 5 inches of rain since May 9th.

I have yet to touch 60 degrees here today. BRRRR.

Should be close to 80 degrees by Thursday.

It was 99 on my patio. This is crazy heat, I think we are in for a long hot summer.

Record high here again! 100° at my house - 99° and 100° all over the area. We're breaking 100 year old records!

And no rain!

MORE RECORD HEAT SUNDAY! DROUGHT GETS WORSE!

Massive upper high will continue to give us record or near record heat through Tuesday. 100 year records continue to break with this heat. 99 on Sunday here at Channel 6 and 100 in Silsbee. Slow inprovement will take place in the heat this week as the upper high slowly weakens. We'll see temperatures lower a degree or two each day beginning Tuesday. Also as this happens upper level disturbances in Oklahoma will move south and hopefully make it this far south eventually. The atmosphere is very warm and the cap will be hard to over come. One Vort will move southeast late Monday into early Tuesday and another progged for Wednesday and Thursday. I'll go a 20% coverage just to be positive in these drought conditions. Things look better for rain next weekend as high completely breaks down.

Some summers don't get any hotter than this and it's still spring, I shudder to think of what this summer will be like. Oh and we also have a 10" rainfall deficit since March 1 to boot!

And the weirdest part is a few weeks ago we were setting record lows, in MAY, and wearing a jacket in the morning and at night!

SG, I was thinking the same thing earlier as well. It seems like those cool temps were so long ago now! I found an interesting graphic that shows just how dry it's been over south central and southwest Louisiana the past two months (and I'm sure pretty much the same thing can be applied to SE Texas). This could be part of the problem with the heat since there's very little moisture in the ground.
