It was 102 at my house Sunday and 100 on Saturday, come on RAIN!! :layout:

THE UPPER RIDGE THAT HAS BROUGHT RECORD HIGHS TO NORTH TEXAS OVER
THE WEEKEND WILL SLOWLY BREAK DOWN DURING THE NEXT FEW DAYS. THE
RECORD HIGHS FOR TODAY ARE 96 DEGREES SET IN 1996 AT DFW... AND 98
DEGREES AT WACO ALSO SET IN 1996. TEMPERATURES MAY BE A DEGREE OR
TWO COOLER TODAY THAN YESTERDAY...AND SHOULD BE ANOTHER DEGREE OR
TWO COOLER TUESDAY. A COLD FRONT WILL MOVE INTO NORTH TEXAS
WEDNESDAY. TEMPERATURES SHOULD THEN COOL CLOSER TO SEASONAL
NORMALS THURSDAY INTO THE WEEKEND. HAVE KEPT SOME LOW POPS IN THE
NORTHEAST FOR LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT. WE SHOULD SEE A
CHANCE OF RAIN IN THE NORTH WEDNESDAY WITH THE APPROACHING FRONT
AND WEAK SHORTWAVE...BUT THE QUESTION WILL BE THE STRENGTH OF THE
CAPPING INVERSION. RAIN CHANCES WILL INCREASE LATE WEDNESDAY NIGHT
INTO THURSDAY...AS THE CAP WEAKENS...UPPER LEVEL SHORTWAVE MOVES
TOWARD NORTH TEXAS.

OUCH!!! What is normal for this time of year in your area. I know it is hotter than usual right now, but when do the AZ deserts really start ramping up into the 100's?

The predicted high for today is gonna be 95, so that should put a stopper in the record heat...or will it?

Record heat grips North Texas

By REBECCA RODRIGUEZ / WFAA ABC 8

DALLAS, Texas - It's Texas, and it's supposed to get hot - but this early?

Spring 2005 was cooler than normal until summer-like weather hit North Texas with a vengeance this weekend.

Temperatures reached 98 degrees on Sunday at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, breaking the record of 96 set in 1939; Saturday's high of 97 topped the record for that date by a single degree.

Though the average high for this time of year is 85, 90-degree temperatures in May are not unusual. However, Sunday marked the second day in a row that saw a record high set and the third consecutive day of above-average temperatures.

At Richardson's Wildflower Arts and Music Festival, water and even sunblock on ice wasn't enough.

"It comes on all of a sudden, and they're not ready for it," said Richardson Fire Department battalion chief Tim Mock.

Eight people at the festival were overcome by the heat streaming down via sunlight.

"People are getting overheated, and with the sunlight they're not used to it," Mock said. "Wednesday was 85 degrees, and today it's 100."

So, all the common-sense tips about dealing with the heat make a lot of sense, even though technically it's still spring.

"You (feel) like you're going to have a heat stroke or something," said festivalgoer Angela Townsend. "You have to drink plenty of water, or you will not make it out here in the heat."

The early heat wave brings back memories of the hottest summer on record in North Texas, back in 1980. The temperature hit 100 that year on June 7.

So if it's this hot now, what happens next?

"The summer looks like slightly above normal temperatures and normal precipitation, but the precipitation around here isn't a whole lot so that doesn't bode well," said Lance Buckalew of the National Weather Service.

Blame a ridge of high pressure for the heat blast. The ridge was holding steady over North Texas but was expected to begin breaking down Monday, bringing a slight chance of rain to far North Texas later in the evening.

Summer rears its hot head

High pressure is culprit for record-setting temps - and spring isn't over

By KENT FISCHER / The Dallas Morning News

DALLAS, Texas - Everyone who needed an air-conditioner serviced discovered that the hard way this weekend, as temperatures Sunday set a record high for the second consecutive day.

The high Sunday at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport hit 98 degrees, breaking the record of 96 set in 1939. It was 99 in Addison and Lancaster.

It was the second day in a row that saw a record high set and the third consecutive day of above-average temperatures.

Today's predicted high temperature is 95 degrees, but the heat-inducing high pressure system could be gone by midweek. Expect temperatures to remain in the 90s, however, until at least Thursday.

If a cold front moves in as expected, temperatures should drop into the normal range and bring at least a slight chance of thunderstorms for the weekend, the Weather Service said.

Saturday's high of 97 topped the record by a single degree. Friday's high was 93. The average high for this time of year is 85 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

Such hot weather is atypical for Dallas-Fort Worth during May, but it's not unheard of.

"We've had 11 days in May where we've hit 100 degrees, and that goes back to 1900. So it's not unusual," said Bill Bunting, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service office in Fort Worth.

Blame a ridge of high pressure for the recent heat blast. The ridge was holding steady over North Texas but was expected to begin breaking down today, bringing a slight chance of rain to far North Texas tonight.

If North Texas did catch a break Sunday, it was that the heat index didn't make the mini heat wave feel a lot worse. Sunday's heat index – a feels-like calculation of heat and humidity – was the same as the air temperature in most locations.

Near normal temperatures are predicted for this summer, said Mr. Bunting, who added that the recent weather shouldn't worry those concerned about a hotter summer.

"We've gone back and looked at early hot spells and found that there is no correlation in what happens in May to predict the upcoming summer."

...THE END OF THE LATE SPRING HEAT WAVE IS IN SIGHT...

THE UNSEASONABLY STRONG UPPER LEVEL HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM CENTERED
OVER WEST TEXAS WHICH BROUGHT TWO STRAIGHT DAYS OF RECORD HEAT TO
NORTH TEXAS WILL GRADUALLY WEAKEN AND RETREAT SOUTHWEST INTO MEXICO.
AS A RESULT HIGH TEMPERATURES WILL ONLY REACH THE MIDDLE TO UPPER 90S
TODAY...AFTER MANY LOCATIONS REACHED 99 OR 100 DEGREES BOTH SATURDAY
AND SUNDAY.  THE RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURES FOR TODAY MAY BE TIED OR
BROKEN AGAIN AT BOTH DALLAS FORT WORTH AND WACO...WHICH ARE JUST 96
AND 98 RESPECTIVELY.  FORTUNATELY...TEMPERATURES WILL CONTINUE TO
COOL THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF THE WEEK WITH HIGHS ONLY IN THE LOWER 90S
BY WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY.

DURING THE HOTTEST PART OF THE DAY...RESIDENTS ARE REMINDED TO REDUCE
OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES...DRINK LOTS OF WATER OR OTHER NON-ALCOHOLIC
BEVERAGES...WEAR LIGHT COLORED/LIGHT WEIGHT CLOTHING...AND IF
POSSIBLE SPEND MORE TIME IN AIR CONDITIONED OR WELL VENTILATED AREAS.
REMEMBER THAT CHILDREN...THE ELDERLY...AND PEOPLE WITH CHRONIC
AILMENTS ARE USUALLY THE FIRST TO SUFFER FROM THE HEAT.
