got my naked Dixie Chicks Mag Saturday

#1 Postby j » Mon Apr 28, 2003 10:36 am

what a disgrace is all I can say. I read the artcile, after scanning the picture as any red-blooded American Male would do, and I am more disgusted with them now than I was before.

The photo is just plain stupid. Strategically placed words meant to draw attention. You want to know which one caught my attention first? "Dixie Sluts" If that's what they wanted, more power to them. I wonder how the parents who are taking their little girls to their concerts, will explain this immoral behavior?

One more thing..if they want to get naked and draw attention to their bodies, why not go all the way and pose in one of the hardcore skin mags?

They deserve everything they get after this!@

My soon-to-be 15-year-old "firehead" viewed the cover as shown on TV this past weekend...he dryly opined, "I've seen better". :o

According to Entertainment Weekly, the Chicks themselves came up with the idea to be depicted in the nude on the magazine’s cover. Written on their bodies are a variety of epithets -- both favorable and negative -- that have been tossed their way during the past six weeks. Martie Maguire says, “We wanted to show the absurdity of the extreme names people have been calling us. How do you look at the three of us and think, ‘Those are Saddam’s Angels?’”

“We don’t want people to think that we’re trying to be provocative,” Maines adds. “It’s not about the nakedness. It’s that the clothes got in the way of the labels. We’re not defined by who we are anymore. Other people are doing that for us.”

IMHO it's not the clothes getting in the way. It's Natalie's big fat mouth. I think they should spend some bucks on duct tape.

I have to say, it's a shame something like this had to happen. My friend knows Natalie pretty well - but you know, there's nothing like a bit of controversy to stir things up a bit on a forum, there just isn't a forum without a bit of dirt!! hehe One thing I don't agree with is bringing your kids to smash and "bulldose" cd's and things like they showed, that's really teaching them something eh?!! Geez... it is a shame though - she couldn't have said it at a more sensitive time. Anyway.. I hope it all calms down real soon.

My substitute teacher for the US History course was about to show the Dixie Chicks special she recorded on ABC, but she forgot about it.

JQ...I'm sorry...I have a shalllow life and all I have to worry about is the moral attitude of our youth. I shouldn't worry so much.

I actually do not want it to "go away". I'm just like Natalie I guess..I want it to go on and on and on.

Oh come on. IF people like me were attacking you for one sentence you said...would you defend yourself or sit there and take it. Its obvious you as well as most of us wouldn't sit there. The moral attitude of our youth? Lol...you should let children hear different views and let them make up their own mind so they don't become puppets of their parents. Banning their music for an opinion is not right. Boycott them...sure...but you can't stop them from being played on the radio...or doing concerts or anything like that. The radio stations are banning them b/c they won't get money if they play dixie chicks they aren't doing it for the moral attitude of our youth. I still think we are blacklisting people that don't blindly follow everything the presidents wants/does. Name one thing you don't agree with bush on...i am sure people don't have the same exact opinions bush does.

If I could only stay awake long enough...I would love to see what the crew of Saturday Night Live does to that front cover.

I laugh just thinking about the possibilities.

I enjoy the Chicks's music, but they are now being brought down for a much needed reality check.

If this is the best they can do to redeem themselves, then I suspect they will slowly slide into a very disappointing end to their career.

I want to think that at least the two educated sisters will find a better form of redemption.

This is a prime example of what happens when you lose track of reality.
It is a sad waste of talent and intelligence lost in the vaccuum of stardom.

I'm with yuo az...can't seem to stay awake long enough to see SNL...plus...I'm not a big fan since the Original Not Ready For Primetime Team broke up. I'm still stuck in the 70's

Talent wise..I think they are great. But they messed up, and then they failed to redeem themselves when given the oppurtunity. Oh well..if the career goes south..there's always Men's Mags.
