Carrie deserves it. We know it was an exceptionally close vote. Both of them are exceptional at what they do.

It was probably the microphone thing that did it in for Bo...

But btw.....Bo ROCKED on sweet home alabama!!! And Carrie's I wanna be your heaven made me cry! :(

I happen to think that Carrie would be a better "Nashville Star" than "American Idol".

I agree, but to be totally honest.....the lines between music genres have become blurred in recent years. I hear C&W songs by Faith Hill (a Mississippi country girl), yet they are near the top of the pop charts.

Toby Keith is pure country....but has hit duets with rock star Sting. Tim McGraw is making hit singles with Nelly. Garth Brooks is extremely popular with folks such as my little sister (Becky) who doesn't even LIKE country music....but she is a huge fan of Garth Brooks; has his cd's playing all the time.

Once upon a time talented folks such as Bo Dice and Carrie Underwood would have never had a chance on shows such as American Idol....they weren't seen as "hip enough"...were seen as "too country"; didn't have "the right sound"; yet this seasons two AI finalists were a "pure country" girl from small town Oklahoma with an angel's voice and a longhaired southern boy from Helena, Alabama who has that sweet southern rock sound I grew up loving so much (.38 Special, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Charlie Daniels, etc).

I look forward to purchasing cd's by both Bo and Carrie...and hopefully listening to their hit songs played on radio and tv for years to come :)

FYI: I also hope that awesome duet by Carrie and Bo tonight is just the first of many....they sounded totally awesome together!

Josephine96...Country music is not that old twangy type "went to a bar in my pickemup truck, downed a few beers and my lady left me" anymore. Listen to this new country with an open mind, err....ear! There's some great songs out there.

But I just am not a big fan of country music

I think I've lost my voice!

But I can type it ---

YAY, CARRIE!!!!

As far as country goes, I NEVER tuned into country music stations and only liked crossover country songs when I was younger (those rare hits by Marie Osmond, Kenny Rogers, Barbara Mandrell, etc). Then, about 13 years or so ago, someone suggested that if I liked Billy Joel, I'd love Garth Brooks. Shortly afterwards, NBC just happened to be showing his special "This is Garth Brooks." So, I tuned in and said, "Ok, dude...show me what you're all about." He did some of his own hits, which I was completely unfamiliar with, as well as Billy Joel's "Shameless" and "You May Be Right." I was sold after I saw him do YMBR. He rocked and the audience rocked with him. Shortly after that, I started dating a country music fan and my exposure to the genre widened (finally, at age 30). I'm still not a die-hard fan by any means -- 80's is my thing. But there's plenty from Garth, Toby, Tim, Faith, and Trisha to entertain me as well. :)

CM's right, John. The right artist (or the right gal) comes along and you might just broaden your musical tastes as well. Never say never. :)

CBS is doing Rock Star which sounds a lot like Idol.

Duckie...you and I are going out celebrating tonight!

I'm a country fan for a lot of the same reasons you are...but country today is about lyrics and melodies that are as contemporary as they can be! Carrie knows who she is...will be comfortable in country and wander across the street to mainstream now and then.

American did pick the right two for the final...and the right one for their idol. She will not let them down!

So where are we meeting to celebrate?

Well, we can always keep going for months, speculating on what the new neighbors' secret is and if Rex is really dead. Plus, we can rave and coo endlessly about Carrie! :D

After all, it's not like I've stopped talking about JAG or Third Watch.

Well Duckie..I am here at 5:20 at the keyboard and ready for sushi for breakfast! Thanks and congratulations for your support of Carrie. I know it sounds cliche to say she will be a strong role model for young folks looking for one....but, in fact, she really has the potential to be what other singers have not...an example to follow that is rooted in family, values, and faith.

...and alicia at least for me, perhaps my conversations can wander back into my own roots for a while...backyard weather and endlessly appreciating the sky and people who enjoy as much as I do.

Well icicles, that just plain blows. Bo should have won. Well at least he is my AI.

Carrie is such a barbie doll and there are alot of types like her out there, while Bo was unique, different.

Oh well, I will have my memories until he puts out a CD :D

But for anyone in the Austin area that can sing and is of the age requirements, AI is a-coming. For me, I am too old and I know I can't sing....

Further reason to celebrate (John, take note of the bolded text):

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,157721,00.html

Garth Brooks, Trisha Yearwood Engaged
Thursday, May 26, 2005

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Garth Brooks stole the show Wednesday night when he got down on one knee in front of 7,000 fans and proposed to fellow country music star Trisha Yearwood.

She said yes — and the crowd went wild.

The occasion was the "Legends in Bronze" event at Buck Owens' Crystal Palace, where 10 larger-than-life bronze statues honoring country stars were unveiled, including one of Brooks.

After his big moment, Brooks popped the question.

The marriage will be the second for Brooks, who has three children, and the third for Yearwood, said Brooks' spokeswoman Nancy Seltzer.

Brooks, 43, is credited with widening the genre's appeal in the 1990s by merging traditional country with honky tonk, pop, folk and rock. His "Ropin' the Wind" album was the first such country recording to debut at the top of the pop music charts. His latest album, "Scarecrow," went triple platinum.

Yearwood, 40, was named the Country Music Awards female vocalist of the year in 1997 and 1998. Her latest album is "Jasper County."

Other musicians honored with bronze statues were Buck Owens, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Hank Williams, Bob Wills, Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, George Jones and George Strait.

(The engagement is what I'm talking about celebrating, of course. The bold text is for John's enlightenment. )

I was wondering when they'll do that considering some contestants of American Idol tried to dance their way in after their vocals failed them.

Where's the Gong Show and Dance Fever and all those? It's the same stuff now with more technology. It's just as vapid and inane as it ever was. Star Search? That was entertaining every once in a while. AI is just another show that manufactures a mediocre talent.

American Idol was at it's best this year, I liked both Carrie and Bo but was really hoping that Bo would win it. Either way both will have nice record contracts and both will have great success with the music they choose to do.

American Idol Successes:

Kelly Clarkson - Idol Winner
Ruben Studdard - Idol Winner
Clay Aiken - Debut CD sold more copies than Ruben's and had his own Christmas Special
Josh Gracin - Josh was nominated in the Breakthrough Artist Of The Year category for the 2005 CMT Music Awards.
Fantasia Barrino - Idol Winner
Diana De Garmo - Debut Full length CD released December 7, 2004, RCA Records.
Carrie Underwood - Idol Winner
Bo Bice - Look Out Southern Rock fans
