When I was in Germany I had all four of mine pulled. I was actually surprised how easy the whole deal was. I had very little pain, other than the pain of hunger because I couldn't open my mouth wide enough to get "real" food in.

Oh no, I didnt mean it that way!! Perhaps I should elaborate...

I was still in the Air Force. They routinely gave folks a valium IV and then gave you a percodan when you "woke up". I never felt a thing. I looked like Alvin and all the other chipmunks and maybe Rocky Raccoon too (I had two black eyes), but it never hurt much beyond a dull ache on occasion...

The thing that really hurts is when you get a dry socket. Because when I first got home with my 2 wisdom teeth pulled, I did not think it was as bad as I thought. Despite spitting up blood for 2 hours. And I only missed just that 1 day of work. I was just drinking my shakes, soup and pudding. On day 3, I tried to eat my regular diet on my good side of my mouth. Because I was starving after only having shakes, soups, and pudding. Not very filling. I went to work, and at work that night, my mouth started hurting with extreme pain. I was almost crying at work it hurt so bad. I had to wait until the next morning to go to the dentist. I had a dry socket plus food got trapped in the whole. He had to suction it out, plus put a medical pack on it. Talk about hurt!

Now, if I ever get my other 2 done, I will have to be put to sleep. The upper one on the right side of my mouth is completly impacted under the gums. (It never erupted because there is not enough room in my jaw.)

That was my problem on the lower left one, but it turned out okay, as the Oral surgeon got "creative," as he called it. So, even impacted, it wasn't bad.

Well this is timely. I just went to the dentist today. Luckily, my wisdom teeth are coming in really good, and shouldn't need to be pulled as of right now.

That's great.

I actually never did have wisdom teeth - they did an x-ray and there was nothing there :D :D - a trait I hope I passed on to my kids!!

Had all 4 of mine out at once under general anesthesia. The pain was at worst mild and well controlled by meds. After I got home I slept most of the day; by the next day I was fine save for a little pain. I was back to work in 2-3 days.

When I had my top two wisdom teeth pulled at 21, my dentist warned me to be especially careful about brushing the bottom ones. They had nothing to grind against and would tend to hang onto food more than usual. Took his advice and it was a good many years before I had to have the bottom ones out. I was glad -- I hate dentists!

All four of my wisdom teeth were impacted, and I had them all cut out at the same time while in the Air Force. With the meds it wasn't too bad

Kelly, ((Hugs)) to you. You will be fine.

All four of mine were impacted at the same time when I was 16. Went into the hospital and had them out. Those were the only teeth that I have ever had pulled. It wasn't all that bad.

I can't talk - mouth full of gauze. YUCK!! My mouth is still numb, in pain, bleeding like crazy, but otherwise ok so far. We'll see how it is when the numbness wears off completely. The meds are helping, I think.

 What are friends for?

Just let the drugs do their job. When that numbness wears off you'll be scrambling for them. Marty made me milkshakes when I had them out - YUM!!!!

BTW - DON'T look at yourself in the mirror. You'll never believe that your jaw can swell out that much!
