My grandpa at the Heros Park in Thibodaux
My grandpa is going to participate in a ceremony at Hero's Park in Thibodaux tomorrow. He gets to bring up a wreath. Him and and another man. The only 2 surviving prisoners of war from World War 2 who are still alive today in this area. My grandpa is now 83 years old. I am so proud of him. I would love to go. But, just found out about it today, and I got to work all day tomorrow! (11-7) So, I won't even be able to go. I need to get out of retail because I am always left out of every weekend event.

Sadly, I received what was stated to be the last newsletter of the 50th Troop Carrier Wing, 441st Troop Carrier Group (9th AF, England, WW II); they have so few members (passing away at a fast rate) and descendants who care enough to join, that the group is asking for no more membership dues, and is essentially closing down.
Only 75 people showed up for the 9th AF Association reunion (for members from WW II - present and their families), so that even this organization is seriously considering closing shop.
My Dad was a Troop Carrier pilot in WW II (Morocco, Sicily, Rome, Normandy, "Market-Garden" [Holland], "Red Ball Express" [flying gas to Patton's push into Czechoslovakia], Kassel) and held his commission until 1957. I wonder if anyone still cares about what these men did for us.

Bill I care. My late father was a Viet Nam vet..served in Korea as well.
Cajungal I bet you are proud of your grandfather. We live in a free country today because of people like him and all the other brave men and women who served in the Armed Forces.
