Frick, it looks like some in your area right now, but it may be too far north. We had some decent showers here, with a little thunder and lightning. Nothing to write home about. I did lose cable for about 40 minutes though. It's moving out of here now with more expected later. I see more storms developing in West Texas.

Haven't had anything at my house either. Seems like the rain has been all around us today but as CM said it just can't seem to make it here. Now there are big storms just north of us but of course heading away with nothing behind them. The drought lives on for another day :grrr: .

There are some big storms blowing up north of Houston, even some tornado warnings have been issued. I'm hoping maybe this will form into a MCS and move into my area late tonight. I know the rains will come but it's frustrating when the storms get close enough to see the rain/lightning yet your yard is still parched.

There is this beautiful thunderhead to my north that has just exploded and has grown all the way to the top of the atmosphere and just flattened and is spreading out... its beautiful! There is a few houses in the way of it.. if I could get on the roof I would snap a pic of it and post it!

Awesome stuff there Yankee. I was also noticing overshooting tops associated with that storm in those pics, definitely a monster of supercells over Trinity and Houston Counties in east Texas. Not surprising to see overshooting storm tops with storms like this. Tornadoes have been confirmed with this already in Trinity County, TX.

Well finally after 4 days of nothing we got nailed pretty good overnight. SW and W counties had upwards of 2.5-3.5 inches of rain. Harris County only received about .25-.50 of an inch.

Active upper air pattern supports additional MCS activity today through Monday and rain chances will remain in place through much of this coming week.

Current shortwave/vort max responsible for this mornings activity is now crossing into LA. However, upper trough over Mexico is quickly reloading with a potent short wave. Skies have cleared nicely over the area this morning and surface heating should raise temps. into the mid to upper 80's by early afternoon. Numerous boundaries are laying across the area and with increasing upper level support widespread thunderstorms will be possible by afternoon into this evening. Models like the idea of another large MCS forming near VCT and moving NE through the region before midnight. We shall see as guidance has done a poor job with these features over the past 4 days.

Moisture levels remain impressive for this time of year and given the threat for training some locations may start to see some flooding problems. Flash Flood Watch is up for all of N TX and may be required for portions of SE TX by this afternoon.

Additional MCS activity is expected Monday and Tuesday with a short break Wednesday and Thursday before the area is back under the gun again by Friday. In fact ridging never really takes a good hold over the area through the next 10 days so daily rain chances will be in store.

Yay for Houston on their much needed rain. Let's see, seems the usual pattern is for the Acadiana area is still in place. Fizzle! Fizzle! Fizzle! We received .15".

I didn't get nearly as much as I had hoped either, Frick. It blew up again shortly before it reached Houston, then it started to die down.

Thanks for the update Jeff. I hope it holds off this afternoon as I'll be at a picnic but after that, rain away!

SPC has upgraded to a mod risk for a large portion of the middle and upper TX coastal plain. Air mass recovery has been much greater and faster than either the 06Z or 12Z model runs were expecting. Dewpoints are pushing the middle 70's at KVCT and even upper 70's at Rockport and Port Lavaca.

Potent H5 S/W over SC TX and another weaker S/W over the Hill County will work in tandem to produce a significant outbreak of severe weather this afternoon and evening from the coastal bend into E TX. Large scale MCS or bow echo with widespread damaging wind potential looks like the best bet at this time.

Additional very heavy rainfall may cause some flooding problems in area where heavy rains fell yesterday and early this morning (mainly west of a College Station to Palacios line). There is some concern this MCS could bog down over the region tonight with good low level inflow and training resulting in excessive rainfall (ie HPC outlook).

We didn't get that much rain this morning but at least it was enough to wet the ground pretty good. The grass is already looking a little greener. Now we just have to wait for the airmass to recover and hopefully we'll have more storms by this afternoon.

About 1:45 I was out in my garage (in the front of the house) and the wind started whipping like crazy...i got scared, closed the garage and ran back inside the house. My backdoor must not have been closed tightly for it was open and I heard a big craaaaaaack.....ran to the door to close it and saw my 20 ft. maple tree had been blown over. EEEEEEKKKKKK!

my husband cut all the branches off before i got out of bed!!!!! Now we have to get a chainsaw and cut the rest of the tree down and get the rest of the branches out to the street. The front of my house is full of branches that won't get picked up until Friday.

I've decided on planting a Drake Chinese Elm instead of another maple.

The spooky part of this is is that 13 years ago this Memorial Day weekend we bought and moved into our house...hope this isn't an omen of things to come. (makes the sign of the cross!)
