watching the storms develop on radar

#21 Postby Houstonia » Sun May 29, 2005 3:38 pm

I'm sitting here watching the storms develop on radar. So far, nothing too bad looking (IMHO). But what do I know.

I have to say, I am so happy that Storm2k is out there - personally, I don't like thunderstorms (I know, I know - how can anyone NOT like thunderstorms - but I spent my childhood in Tornado Alley, and running to the basement and worrying about your pets can create a lot of fear in a 7-yr old). It's nice to get online here and see other Houston/Galvers out there watching the same storms that I am!!

Yours in the sky...

Looks like that one cell west of Houston along I-10 is beginning to split. Wouldn't be surprised to see a Tornado warning come out eventually for that right mover.

Latest base vel indicates area of rotation with both the left and right mover.

Indeed, some of these storms in southern texas is popping up in a very short time period. With the heat and moister some of these storms won't give you much of a warning.

Stay alert!

This popped up in a matter of 3 minutes.

We just had a second round of heavy thunderstorms roll through (north) Austin since midnight. Lots of cloud-to-ground lightning and brief, heavy rainfall. Since midnight, we've recieved 2.7 inches of rain.

Good luck to our friends near Houston as the weather looks much more severe in that neck of the woods!

It looks to be getting quite severe over the last 30min....

The explosion of storms is somewhat scary...

As usual though it leaves me in awe of how good the weather forecasters of the NWS and our own Jeff can ancitpate things in advance....

Kudos to both...

What's amazing is that alot of these storms are barely moving. Radar is indicating up to 7" of rain has fallen in some spots north of Victoria and that has all occured 3 or so hours. There has got to be some significant flooding taking place in those areas. I'm hoping the radar starts to fill in around here as we still need quite a bit of rain after pretty much being missed by this mornings storms. Stay safe SE Texans, tornado warnings continue to fly...

Omgosh - I just drove through a horrible storm!! I was getting blown across the road and could barely see, and I was driving super slow. I couldn't even see the white stripes on the freeway. Every car was just going slow and staying far enough apart to get through. I probably should have pulled over but I just wanted to get home! The thunder and lightning was non-stop, and debris was flying across the road. I thought I was going to blow off the road. I love storms but I can honestly say this was a bit on the scary side!!

It's still raining at my house and I can hear tons of thunder. Radar shows a lot more on the way. My neighborhood is littered with debris...I had to dodge huge limbs on the road. I see now there were severe thunderstorm warnings. Well, duh! lol

Wow 'gale! Glad you're OK. Looks like it's going to be a long night in SE Texas. So far the really bad stuff has been very close to us and we've only had about a half inch of rain. Our street floods if the 2 dogs take a leak at the same time so the anxiety level is a tad high this evening. Was it moiself who's been griping about no rain?

Nothing here yet, but I'm keeping my eye out. Looks like a lot of it is moving parallel to the coast and blowing NE towards most of you guys. ABC13 just reported 60 mph winds from the storm in Wharton. I might get brushed by the lower batch that moved through Palacios, but otherwise, I think I'll be the lucky one in our crowd. Looks like David and the other SE Houstoners are about to feel this one.

We had some heavy storms blow through yesterday afternoon and through the night last night in Fort Parker (near Mexia). I slept through the fiercest stuff. But it was horribly painful to not have internet access or a TV to catch the radars and watch the stuff moving through. :) Glad to be back where I can keep an eye out.

Stay safe, y'all!!

Powerful bow echo moving up the Upper TX Coast.

League City and N Galveston Co look to be in the apex. we will get blasted. Bay City had 68MPH gusts with this bow.

Wish us luck.
