Yep...I was wrong. Today chose the sunshine / convection route instead of solid cloud cover.
I absolutely love where the C Zone is right now! Covington is right in the heart of it, and we just had a quarter inch of rain in 10 minutes! That projects to a 1.5 inch an hour clip. As amazing as this downpour was, the one I saw near Puyallup today was much worse. It was litterally like someone just turned a hose on. My back was soaking wet after walking 10 feet in it. I can only imagine what the rainfall rate was on that one. Needless to say, June has made it known that it intends to be be wet and active!
As for the high of 66 today...that simply astounds me. I never would have dreamed it would get that warm. It only got to 62 in Covington, but still...

You are right W13...With this kind of weather it could rain for a total of 5 hours this month, be nice the rest of the time, and still end up well above normal for precip! That could make everyone happy.

Still raining a bit here in Tukwila/Renton, though I don't know the rate. I love how refreshing and clean the air is when it rains like this. Love it!
When I settle in Lake City in the next few weeks, I hope to find a spot to set up a weather station so I can contribute to the conversations here more.

You will have some neat weather in Lake City. Many convergence zones set up in that area. The zone is in an atypical location tonight. Everything about this year is atypical!

Avg. High Temp: 66.3
Avg. Low Temp: 48.8
Warmest High temp: 88 (27th)
Coldest Low Temp: 39 (23rd)
Monthly precip: 4.09"
Total precip this year so far: 18.76"
Intersting side note: We are not even past the first day of June and my monthly rainfall total for Covington is already up to 0.65 inches. That is almost as much rain as fell in the entire month of February!

BTW...Sea - Tac finished May with a total of 3.32 inches of rain which makes it the 4th wettest on record. The only ones wetter were 1948, 1977, and 1984. I like two of those years!

TT...The bet is on about Saturday getting to 73! The ETA is showing a surge of cool air ahead of the low will make it in here Friday night. That should make Saturday more like 62 - 65.

My quick observations about the water supply...
I saw Lake Keechelus last weekend and it is only a hair below normal level for this time of year. Lake Easton was totally full and the rivers and streams all looked like they were flowing fairly high. Besides all of that the Forest Service fire danger sign was low. I would say if June is wet, we have totally dodged the bullet!
It seems like someone I know predicted the drought would end without causing little more than some minor inconvenience! Perhaps the governor needs a weather adviser!

Yeah, sorry about that. I'm going to the Lake City neighborhood in N. Seattle-- just across the water from one of you-- Covington is it?
I'm excited about the interesting weather here-- so many things that are completely foreign to me. South Carolina (Charleston) was pretty boring except for the really nice sunsets in the late spring.
Oh, and I'm a girl. But I inherited my weather interests from my Dad.

Bellingham is really getting left out of the boat with the big rainfall totals this year... Not much exciting up here. June should be better i hope... and the next week especially.
As for next winter, i have really been studying hard on the global indices and things that tie in with that... What we should hope for is a really crappy fishing season in Bristol Bay and really good season in the Lower Columbia...

I actually live about 30 miles SE of Lake City.
Today we are stuck in thick low clouds, and it's only 56 at 1:00pm.
Update: Still only 56 in Covington at almost 2:00pm. Every time we get this "fake" east wind it stays very cool here. I have yet to figure out what causes it.
The 12z ETA is even more dramatic with the surge of cold air it is predicitng for Friday night and Saturday. It could be a very cool weekend!

Justin...You are correct that our normal east wind comes from the upper Green River valley, but I am refering to when we get an east wind with strong onshore flow. The only thing I can figure is that strong west winds hit the mountains and there is some kind of a reflection that returns in the form of an east wind. It must cause some kind of a downdraft, because it is almost always colder than anywhere around when that happens. This is one of the many mysteries about the weather in SE King County.
As you saw yesterday we are highly capable of getting the C Zone down here too! All it takes is a true NW flow aloft and a straight W to E surface pressure gradient. I am betting that true NW flows are more common in our cold climate phase, which I hope we are entering. I actually think the upper level patterns have already changed over to some degree. I am sure TT will disagree, but oh well!
