Watching the local met

#1 Postby Orlando_wx » Thu Jun 02, 2005 1:58 pm

Hey folks last night i was watching one of the local mets and he was telling us that because of a weaker high pressure last month this will help keep storms away from Florida and the gulf this year. And we should be safe from storms this season .Don't get me wrong i don't want any storms after what we went through last year. But what this does is give false security for everyone who watches this who's not familiar with weather is going to get the wrong idea, for instance when I got to work today a friend of mine said he seen the met on TV last night and said we don't have worry this year and not prepare for anything which i a wrong idea . So what i am getting at is i wish they wouldn't jump to conclusion yet we started the season.
Just had to vent for moment.

I too have heard about it but didn't get to see it. I would love to hear the logic presented by him to make his case. I for one will watch how things set up in the near future, and won't give two hoots about the fact May had weaker highs or was wet or dry. You are right that quite a few folks took it to heart, sigh.....

Its good to know that on June 2nd before 1 depression has even developed that local METS & some of these scientists by day & tarot cards readers by night are telling Floridians that their safe this season. No wonder Floridians are complacent.

Again this is why I find myself rooting for mother nature.Man thinks he's got her figured out.

I worked in the offshore oil drilling business about 25 years ago as a sr. engineer for the Analysts/Schlumberger doing process analysis work. One thing I can tell you when predicting a process whether under the earth or above the earth the educated "pro's" are not always right. You can study how things happened before and all the parameters but soon even the best "pro's" end up making the wrong predictions. Sometimes a high school dropout even can have a better track record.

God is in control.

Watch this home video made by some young "adults" in Orlando during Hurricane Charley and you'll really be wishing for Mother Nature to teach those who are complacent a thing or two:

God is not a woman. That theology does not line up with orthodoxy. Just my opinion.

Hi John,

Yeah, I saw that too. I couldn't believe that. It's going to be difficult enough to get people to react to hurricanes now (since almost all of us are three time veterans now.) He based what he said on the position of the Bermuda high, which will be farther east this year and allow for last minute re-curvature. That would be nice, but as you know, the position of the high is only ONE factor. I agree with you. His making statements like that is totally irresponsible.

So I decided to avoid that. :)

tallywx its things like that coupled with people who think they know it all that puts me on the side of the storms sometimes!

This type of thinking (if you want to call it thinking) is stupid and above all dangerous. There is NO chance of anyone being able to say with certainty that a particular area is safe. The Carribean, Central America, Mexico , the Gulf Coast and the east coast of North America from Florida to the Canadian Maritimes are under the gun this year as they are EVERY year. Only time will tell when and where the storms will hit. I do not mean to sound harsh here but when I hear a so called met say stuff like this it makes my blood boil :x
