David Bernard, met at WWL, New Orleans, just mentioned the system very briefly at the 3:00p.m. news update. He said we'll have to watch the Gulf next week for possible tropical development.

This may really be it! It may actually be starting after a very loooong wait!

I meant "long wait" by means of the "off season". Kinda like what I'm going through right now with football season....it's a VERY long off season.

Weatherbug has mentioned it to its on thier storm central section on the main front page of the application. They got a map of all the convection and just a misleading guidance track on the image. Hear we go again hopefully. I liked last years season here in central mid florida 3 eyes right over us.

Tropical Disturbance Flares up in Caribbean

The first tropical system for the 2005 Atlantic Hurricane Season may be forming in the northwest Caribbean.


The National Hurricane Center (NHC) says that satellite images show the system getting better organized, and surface pressures are falling in the area, which indicates a developing storm.


Should the system continue to develop overnight, the NHC will dispatch a U.S. Air Force "Hurricane Hunter" C-130 aircraft to investigate the system on Wednesday. The crew will look for signs of a closed counter-clockwise circulation at the surface.


If they find it, and winds are at least 29mph, then the system will be classified as a tropical depression. Should winds reach 39mph or higher, the depression is upgraded to a tropical storm and given a name. The first name on the list this year is Arlene.


The area of disturbed weather is located where tropical weather systems typically form this early in the season. On average, a tropical storm or hurricane forms in the Atlantic Basin (Atlantic, Gulf of Mexico, and Caribbean) once every two years.


Current computer forecast models, which take into account the tracks of previous early-season storms, predict the disturbance will move northwestward into the central and/or eastern Gulf of Mexico by late in the week, or the weekend.


As is the case with any tropical weather system, there is a great deal of uncertainty regarding the forecast several days out. So, keep checking back with WeatherBug for updates!

I liked last years season here in central mid florida 3 eyes right over us.

Oh kay! You can have em.. just send them very far away from me. I did not enjoy close to 2 weeks without power, 3 evacuations and hotel expenses I could not afford NOOOOOO thanks.

To get back on topic, our local fox news weather guy mentioned it this morning and said it was worth watching... I guess he must be like the rest of us weather dorks who think ANYTHING this time of the year is worth watching.

Yeah this is true i had a total of about 3 1/2 weeks no power between charley, frances and jeanne. but i never evacuated for any of them so I had no expenses there I was the crazy one in my house with all the radars and weather maps and stuff going and me outside welcoming the lil storms Everyone calls me crazy but I love mother natures good storms.
