Do you Iron?
Moderator: S2k Moderators
No ironing here. I keep a supply of hangers by the dryer and take things out while they are still slightly damp and put them immediately on the hanger. That gets things presentable. We have a couple of all cotton shirts though that are a real pain. They have to come out while they are more than damp, and then the collars and sleeves manually straightened before putting them on the hanger. My mother had the same sprinkler thing in an old Pepsi bottle. I "liberated" that bottle once and I still have it! Talk about memories!

Amanzi - you amaze me! You are indeed a throwback to another generation, lost in the shuffle! Do you wear a dress, heels and pearls too while doing housework? LOL I'm so sorry for that one, just couldn't resist!!!! When I watch old sitcoms, like Beaver, I just crack up at the mom's doing chores dressed like that. My mom said she never dressed like that - she got dirty since they all heavy duty cleaned back then. Everything was scoured - pulling applicances out, cleaning behind them, starching everything in sight.
My mom also took in ironing, so that misting pop bottle sure got a workout. She even kept a clothes rack on wheels in the kitchen. It was like a part-time job for quite a few years. She'd have the radio on and be ironing away. Can't believe people wanted so much ironed back then. One "client" had baskets full of clothes. Ah, the memories indeed!
As for cleaning, I go for that illusion of clean. Only once a year does this house get the complete workout - around the holidays. Then it shines. Proud to say I pull applicances out, clean behind them (who looks back there anyway, Martha Stewart?), etc.

When I was a kid (geez I think I can remember back that far-yes Dennis we did have electricity) anyway, Mom made us do our own ironing. Yes, we had the sprinkling bottle. I can remember times when I would sprinkle the clothes and roll them up, forget about them, go out and play, and then have to re-wash them several days later cause they smelled reallllly bad!!!
When my kids were toddlers, I had a wringer washer and no dryer. Needless to say, I spent an entire day at the ironing board. Those little baby dresses were really tedious. I guess I was a 60's Donna Reed with cutoffs, halter tops and love beads. lol
I still love to iron and love the smell of sheets that have been hung on the line outside to dry. I really hated scratchy towels that were hung on the line. Thank goodness for permanent press and dryers. At least now we have the option.
