This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Arlene moving west now?!?!?!?

#1 Postby Stormcenter » Thu Jun 09, 2005 11:42 am

Now I knew that title would get a lot of views, LOL.

But seriously she doesn't really seem to be moving much.

Might be a WNW drift but it certainly is NOT moving north and it's moving further away from convection. Don't you just love naked swirls?

North North West to North West....it is interesting that she is making this turned (like predicated). I didn't think a NW turn was in the cards. I wonder if it is the ridge having some impact?

Doesn't seem to have moved much at all in the last couple of hours. BTW, what I thought in a earlier thread might be a little embedded vortex seems actually to have been the center after all. the little tiny feature has dissipated, but the circulation is definitely right where that was.

Ummm ... I'm not seeing that motion. Not saying it won't happen, mind you, but I really havent seen much movement at all in two hours or so.

Its still a broad center, but I too think that there is a westerly component. I don't see the center of circulation moving north over Cuba. I feel it will go thru the Yucatan channel. From there ? Dunno!

I am seeing the "Great dissappearing Ridge" starting to kick some butt out in the northern Atlantic and doesn't show any real sign of stopping...could get interesting...

cheers

It will cross Cooba (as my dad would say). There is not a clear center of circulation and the storm is still heading N or NNW.

Huh? Have you looked at the visible lately? The LLC is clearly visible, and it ain't crossing "Cooba", I'll put money on that!

What are you saying....there's a possibility of a more "westerly" component in the future track if the "dissappearing ridge" continues?

All I know is that circulation if it is the center has made a good jog to the west.

Definately a clear cicrculation...you can see it on visible. It's naked, but it's there....and it is not going to cross Cooba.

Look at the latest GOM vis. satellite loop. Look closely south of LA at how the clouds are moving almost due west across the gulf. In my opinion this very well could lead to a more westerly direction and favorable conditions for strenghtening (less shear) if this high keeps building in. But what do i know I am not a pro. Any comments good or bad?
