Winds Gusting 35 mph in the FL Keys as Gradient Tightens

I checked some of the FL Keys observations and they are reporting gusts between 30-35 mph offshore (Molasses Reef off Key Largo and Key West International) :eek:

This is expected as the ridge is really starting to build in and the gradient is tightening between the Low and the High to the NE. I wouldn't be surprised if we see wind gusts in S. Florida tomorrow and Sat. to 40-50 mph in some of the more extreme rainbands :eek:

All from a 40 mph tropical storm. Remember there was reports that it did not have a warm core. In with the strongest winds away from the center. Is that what you call subtropical?

we will see the strongest winds well east of the center and some of the stronger "bands" will gust above 40mph.

It's storming pretty well here in South Florida (Florida City) .. anyone know where we could find out what the winds are currently and possible gusts?

The NHC never said it wasn't warm core. The only person that i've heard say that is ORTT.

At 12:54 am Florida city has ESE wind gust up to 27 mph. :eek:

That makes sense, just felt my door shaking ..
It's getting pretty rough here in the past half an hour or so.
Nonstop winds and rain.

Is there a website to see gusts / winds?

Miami International has E winds 17 gusts to 32 with approaching "bands."

This might do more damage then a normal tropical storm with the same winds.

Conditions in S FL will continue to deteriorate tonight and into tomorrow...expect high winds but we shouldn't see anything higher than 50mph here...so no major damage expected but I think people will be surprised how windy it will be when they wake up tomorrow :eek:

The fact we have a breeze at all here tonight is a test to the size of the windfield. Usually it's dead air out there in summer and were begging for a breeze especially at night..

Wow TWC shows winds of 28mph for the Keys and 18mph for Homestead (I don't belive these are gusts either)

What a weird storm. A purly tropical system would not have a wind field like this. This is a subtropical wind field with a tight tropical cyclone. What is this? :roll:

Matt, what we are seeing is the pressure gradient that is increasing between Arlene and the high pressure ridge to the NE that is clearly building in now...hence the increase in winds. It's not due to the proximity of Arlene, it's the gradient that we are seeing

The only website I knew of with winds :(
Though the 18mph seems reasonable for the area, it wouldn't suprise me with what I've heard.
