CYCLONE MIKE wrote:I tend toagree also. Just checking out the latest sat. loops of the NW ATL. and it looks as though the high is still digging in. I can't tell how strong it is but looks strong enough to push the storm more west as it starts to bump into the ridge the more north it gets. Also seem to be fighting off the dry air to the west pretty good by dragging moist ATL air across Florida into the GOM.

The dry air to the SW is holding its own pretty nicely there is not much to suggest a NW turn its been heading 360 for a while. It wont get any further west than 87W. IMO.

[quote="Ixolib"]Wish I understood more about what is depicted here. Perhaps someone might elaborate on what's supposed to push Arlene more westerly?

[quote]

Ixolib,
If I'm not mistaken, the circle with the white arrows off the coast of the Carolinas is a High. That is what is supposed to be pushing Arlene more toward the NW. From what I've read and heard, the high is supposed to be building across Florida, which will tend to steer the storm away from the peninsula and toward the central Gulf Coast.

By the way, looks like we're getting a feeder band here about 20 miles north of Hattiesburg. Skies in the east are dark, winds are picking up and it looks like rain may soon start.

Unfortunately mine faces NW toward the Hibernia building and the Superdome. All I can see is backside stuff. We went out for a smoke during the mini-band and it gusted into the upper teens/lower 20s and brought a sprinkle or two. I hope we get more, but if all I get from Arlene is an hors d'ourve, I'm still cool with that.

Wow, Seminary brings back memories. Went to football games there when I was about 6 and living in Purvis. (The old Apache Conference). My parents live over in Improve now.

Looks like we'll end up with most of nothing. That mini-band didn't last long, though looks like more behind it. not much different than what we've been getting anyway though.

Must be on the road to Angie, Bogalusa, etc.? And if they sold liquor to MS teenagers in the 50's, then I'm sure my dad knows where it is!
