I believe a Hurricane Warning should have been issued at 8pm.....I think the public would have got the word better, Im not big on issuing major updates on the 11pm advisory, many people may have already called it a night! the thing is just 4 miles shy of cane status and racing north at almost 20mph.....why wait till everyone goes to bed to issue a warning!!

I agree 100% Dude....in fact, I've highly recommended hurricane warnings be posted (between Gulfport, MS and Panama City Beach, FL) on my evening analysis (just posted on my website).

I didn't notice our local TV mets downplaying the storm. However, what did disturb me was that some of the reporters over at Gulf Shores and Dauphin Island were talking like it was a "done deal" that she would pass to our east and not be much of a problem for us in AL. I think it's still too early for that.

I like the mets in Mobile much better than Pensacola. Not only do they provide better hurricane coverage, but they are better with any severe weather coverage IMO.

Definitely too early....this could still pass over or just west of Mobile...

Speaking of tv mets using "miminal wolf" during tonight's broadcasts.....there are two HUGE music festivals taking place in Atlanta this weekend, and the mayor/ city leaders IMO must have put pressure on the tv stations to downplay the storm....in order to increase crowds = money spent at the festivals.

To listen to the evening Atlanta weathercasts, you'd think the chance of rain tomorrow and Sunday in metro Atlanta was slim...."just a few showers expected". What they failed to mention is it could easily end up being a couple inches of rain if Arlene tracks across central Alabama (especially here west of Atlanta)...not to mention the risk of feeder band spawned tornadoes

Well, I think one of the problems I have noticed today is the media attention focused on the Ivan strike area (Pensacola, Fort Walton, etc...) Even when Gulfport was under a hurricane watch the people at work were saying "Well, they havent really talked about our area they keep talking about Pensacola, I think that they think it is going to Pensacola". Now you and I know that is a very dangerous train of thought but I do believe the general concenus in the Gpt/Bil area and possibly other areas is... "They keep focusing on Pensacola it is going there." I asked a cashier at the store today if she were selling alot of hurricane supplies and she said "Not really", which really suprised me. Another guy said at work said "You can tell where a hurricane is going by where Jim Cantore is reporting from." OMG unbelievable and very dangerous but I do believe the media has be very instrumental in creating a feeling of security at least in the area I'm in. Any other thoughts on this?

I'm planning to call her cell phone to give her a heads-up (since they probably haven't heard about this all the way up there), but I'm not sure what to tell her to expect in Atlanta and Central AL on Sunday. Your thoughts would be most appreciated!

What time? Morning looks to have the worst conditions(occasional rain/squalls with some gusty winds). Could be completely over by afternoon depending on speed.

From tomorrow afternoon into Sunday morning looks wet and potentially stormy across western Georgia and east-central Alabama.....but with the forward speed of Arlene progged to be steadily northward even after making landfall, the widespread rain and t-storms should be on the decrease after noon here on Sunday....except a risk of typical summertime "pop up" storms in the late afternoon heat.
