"The track forecasts were very good. The hurricane warning zone was large but it's better to be safe in that regard," said Derek Ortt, meteorologist with the University of Miami.

and now I see that our F_____ is now resorting to claiming that I was abused as a child? I've had enough of him as if that post was made by him, I will be consulting an attorney to end all of his harassment and stalking.

#1. I was not in any way abused as a child. Maybe not so great one was, which would explain his actions

#2. MWHC is not legit

#3. Freedom of speech should not cover Mr Smugalas statements as they are a threat to public safety

#4. HURRICANES ARE NOT A GAME. If he continues to feel this way, he ne really needs to be institutionalised.

How can that paper allow that idiotic nonsense on their site..IMO this (not so) great one character is sort of a stalker who is headed down a dangerous path.This guy needs to seek counciling & or be locked up for as long as possible.

recent posts. I have notified them of his statements and made a request of them (wont give the request here as I may be pursing legal action against Mr Smugala)

If Not-So-Great One keeps this up, is there a law that allows authorities to arrest him? If so, this guy really needs to found and taken to justice. If there isn't a law, I would keep alerting authorities and if possible, NOAA and NHC to not take Not-So-Great One seriously.

No one deserves this type of stalking and bashing.

The internet is swamped with idiots, and anonymous forums attract them like bees to honey. It's easy to say ignore him, but if someone was bashing me on a news forum like that, I'd be PO'd too.

Derek, there is no doubt that what this person wrote was wrong and idiotic, but replying only serves his interest and not yours. Just let it go and seek the legal remedies you were saying. Replying only makes you look like there right and that you are now having to defend yourself. The toughest part about defendinh lies is that you are defending ghosts things that are not there (true). Keep up the good work...

If I were Derek and was being stalked like this after having graduated with, I think (correct me if I'm wrong Derek), a degree in meteorology, and probably looking for greater opportunities, I'd be LIVID. I don't blame him one bit for wanting to pursue legal action.

Many people, including me, agree and disagree with others, including Derek, many times; perfectly normal. What is NOT normal is that he should be bashed PUBLICLY.

I absolutely agree. However, a BLOG on a newspaper site or a public forum is NOT the place to respond if you want credibility. This guy is getting everything he wants, and Derek, the users of this site and I are giving it to him.

If plans are to seek legal remedies, making similar remarks publicly about your tormentor lessens your ability to solve the problems through the courts.

its not the first comment, it is the second comment about me undergoing abuse as a child which is the problem.

the first is just his spamming the board, which can be dealt with through an ISP. The abuse claim is a direct lie

I am amazed they havent deleted these comments... It is obvious great one is slanderring Derek publicly and they should take his IP and send authorities to pay a visit. :grrr:
