No it is necessary to respond to him so that the people who happen upon the blog unknowingly won't take greatone seriously. It is a very good thing Derek replied to him.

...and the "abused child" comment was apparently removed. I just visited the website and its not there.

heh, while the name calling that has ensued is tragic, I must say, I never knew us "weather geeks" could be so fiesty.....

it reminds me of the text battles of yore on IRC between computer geeks, (which many of us weather geeks also fall into)....

I guess all in all, drama makes the world go round.....at least its entertaining...somewhat

cheers

For one arlen never reached CAT1 hurricane standards with 80mph winds.

Congratulations on your quote in the News Journal! Weren't you also quoted in the PNJ after Ivan? It's seem like I remember seeing your name.

I also added a comment to the News Journal blog as I'm familiar with the person causing the trouble. I doubt most people will be reading that blog by this point so I think your reputation and that of Storm2k will be just fine.

not at all concerned about my reputation at this point. The removed comment did have me concerned

I did appear in the Ivan special edition of the newspaper as well. It is an honor to provide assistance to those having to suffer through a landfalling tropical cyclone

DEREK!!!!

OH MY GOD!!!! I am so sincerely sorry!

I haven't been back to the boards since I posted, except for a quick check or two on weather, and did not followup (as I should have) on a thread that I started.

I saw these comments here just now, and haven't had even gone to the newspaper site, but I am sick to my stomach about this.

PLEASE let me know if I can help by writing or calling someone.

Very sincerely,
Jody

Derek,

In support of you I would like to say that this "NotsoGreatOne" or whatever he calls himself sounds like a jealous kid. I would take his comments with a grain of salt although I know they are slanderous and hurtful, your true friends and fans will disregard his comments as false. Hang in there, often times true wisdom such as yours is often envied by those who dont possess the intelligence to understand it! I'm looking forward to your forecasts this hurricane season, please dont be discouraged....

Happy forecasting

I'll probably be at HRD tomorrow for a seminar, and may bring this up with some whom I know over there.

Jody, if you can do anything to keep him from spreading lies regarding tropical cyclones and their threats (as well as his mis-spellings, which only make him look as if he's a 10 year old brat who needs the principle to rap his knuckles about 50 times with the ruler), by all means do so. We have so much mis-information on the web, much of it spread by him. This is a matter of public safety

I had to do soemthing regarding the removed comments, as those who are unfamiliar with me, would only be receiving the lies told by him

nobody will take not so great one seriously, just look at the quality of his posts. He even admitted that he's an amateur, while anyone can do a google search and see that I recently graduated and am a meteorologist, who specializes in tropical meteorology
