Little spin with wave off Africa

http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/PS/TROP/DATA/RT ... -loop.html

Discussion of wave from TPC at 2:05 PM EDT.

EAST ATLANTIC TROPICAL WAVE REPOSITIONED ALONG 20W S OF 16N
MOVING W NEAR 10 KT. THE WAVE IS CHARACTERIZED BY WELL-DEFINED
MID-LEVEL VORTICITY RESULTING FROM HORIZONTAL SHEAR ACROSS A
STRONG AFRICAN EASTERLY JET WHICH LIES ROUGHLY ALONG 10N. THE
WAVE IS REPOSITIONED A LITTLE FARTHER E FROM ITS PREVIOUS
POSITION BASED ON A STRONGER VORTICITY SIGNATURE CROSSING 20W AS
SEEN ON MET-8 VIS IMAGERY. THE GFS LATCHES ON TO THIS FEATURE...
EVENTUALLY AMPLIFYING THE WAVE AS IT APPROACHES THE CAPE VERDE
ISLANDS LATER TODAY. WIDELY SCATTERED MODERATE CONVECTION
ALIGNED ALONG THE ITCZ FROM 6N-11N BETWEEN 18W-23W.

The vortex is at the mid levels not at the surface.Convection is not plenty but it has some.Nothing will occur in terms of development as upper conditions are not favorable but the bottomline of this thread is to point out that waves with vortexes are emerging Africa.Comming the heart of the season in that part of the world by August and September those spins that seem small now will grow and have an active Cape Verde season however how active the CV season will be depends on what I call the enigma of the season the SAL factor.

Good point. With all the focus on GOM and Carribean systems lately, we don't want to lose sight of the weather coming out of Africa.

E ATLC TROPICAL WAVE ALONG 21W S OF 17N MOVING W 10-15 KT. A
BROAD SPIN CAN BE SEEN ON VISIBLE SATELLITE PICTURES WITH
CONVECTION FORMING WITHIN THE ITCZ WITH A 2.2 MB 24 HOUR
PRESSURE FALL OBSERVED IN SAL. COMPUTER MODELS FORECAST THIS
WAVE TO BE HIGH-AMPLITUDE AS IT TREKS W.

Ummm 2.2 mb pressure fall not a big thing to open eyebrows but something to follow for the next couple of days.
