Strong Wave=Gale Warnings for Caribbean Waters (Edited)

#1 Postby cycloneye » Mon Jun 20, 2005 1:23 pm

Image

This is folks a fairly strong tropical wave but in terms of development conditions aloft are not favorable at this time but some squally weather is on tap for the lesser antilles islands in the next day or so.

TROPICAL WAVE NEARING THE LESSER ANTILLES ALONG 55W SOUTH OF 16N
MOVING WEST 20 KT. THIS WAVE CONTINUES TO DISPLAY A LARGE AND
IMPRESSIVE SIGNATURE IN SATELLITE IMAGERY WITH A SW/NE ELONGATED
CYCLONIC ENVELOPE BETWEEN 50W-60W. CONVECTION HAS ALSO INCREASED
WITH SCATTERED MODERATE/ISOLATED STRONG CONVECTION NOW COVERING
THE AREA FROM 10N-15N BETWEEN 52W-62W INCLUDING PORTIONS OF THE
WINDWARD ISLANDS AND TRINIDAD/TOBAGO. THIS ACTIVITY WILL
CONTINUE TO SPREAD ACROSS THE ISLANDS TODAY AND TONIGHT
PRODUCING GUSTY WINDS AND LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL.

THE MID-OCEANIC TROUGH HAS FRACTURED
FORMING A CUTOFF UPPER LOW WHICH IS RETROGRADING ACROSS THE
CENTRAL CARIBBEAN CURRENTLY NEAR 70W. DIFFLUENCE E OF THIS
FEATURE IS PRODUCING INCREASING CLOUDINESS AND SHOWERS/TSTMS
OVER THE E CARIBBEAN ESPECIALLY S OF 13N. THIS ACTIVITY WILL
INCREASE AND EXPAND NWD AS A STRONG TROPICAL WAVE...CURRENTLY
ALONG 55W...MOVES INTO THE AREA WITHIN THE NEXT 12-24 HOURS.

Could it possibly...possibly be on its way to the western Caribbean later this week for a rendezvous with a trough split backing SW? The plot thickens on "As The Tropics Churn".

Stay tuned.

Brisk winds are blowing and wave heights are high thru this bouy located east of Martinique. But pressures are not falling like a rock only slightly.

Since this morning my gauge has recorded 1.20 inches of rain. We have experiences extremely heavy rain at times with fierce lightning strikes, gusty winds and even dime-size hail. Right now is raining but not very heard. Street flooding is everywhere and the Flash Flood Watch has been extended until tomorrow. Also, the temperature is 70 degrees Fahrenheit, very cool for a June afternoon.

You're not kiddin. I wish I had a rain gauge out there - we just had a couple hours of heavy rain here. I can just imagine what this type of thing will do to the Car. islands.... :(

This TW has potential for development when it reaches the W Caribbean next weekend.
