Number of storms named East of 40 degrees

How many systems will become named storms EAST of 40 degrees
this year? Remember, a named storm means at least Tropical Storm
strength.

I would say more or less, 4. We are expecting a fierce Cape Verde Season, thereafter, I would expect to see various named storms forming far in the Eastern Atlantic Ocean. Last year we had Danielle, Earl, Frances, Ivan, Karl, Lisa, and Otto.

The systems that form east of 40w are the true Cape Verde systems many of them longtrackers that reach the Caribbean and the US East coast.I say that 4 of those will form and the rest that may form will be west of 40w closer to the islands.

luis .....did you see the ssts at the two new bouys, 41040 and 41041 at 45 and 53 deg respectively, 82.3 and 83.8 degrees already!!!....anything developing east of 40 deg will traverse bath water on the way to the island in late july/early aug.

I think Five. Gonna be a killer of a season once again, but I don't think the Northern Islands will be so lucky(Frances, Isabel etc.)
