Very cool animation of 2004 hurricanes

#1 Postby cycloneye » Mon Jun 20, 2005 6:56 am

http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2004/hurric ... index.html

Good animations of all the hurricanes in 2004.Go to the top and press the name you want to see animated or go to all hurricanes and you will see all of them with their tracks.

They forgot to include Hurricane Gaston.

That is AWESOME! I'd love it if they did it for all the past seasons. Also, I thought Charley hit Florida a little more north than what they show?

Yes that is really cool but not completely accurate...

Charley came in a little further north than they show. Also, Ivan's recurvature was much wider because he actually entered the Atlantic and came over the penninsula of Florida and traversed the Gulf much further south before heading to the upper Texas coast. I do like the way they show the forward speed of the storms as they varied from day to day. You'd think if they could get that right they'd be able to the exact paths.

Good stuff but yeah Charley's Fla landfall is somewhat south of where it should be.

It is not CNN but its nice that you can scroll up and down the storm and gives daily info on the storm's location, speed etc.

Nice, but not all that accurate. With a little accuracy, it would be very nice.

According to this innacurate animation, Charley made landfall directly on the coast of Naples, FL, it should have been about 60 miles north of here, they just we're off by less than a centimeter on the real map though lol..but yea, this map shows Charley making landfall in Naples, Collier County, when it was actually 2 counties north.

Kevin Cho - East Naples, FL.

Ok, so we'll give them an A for concept, and an F for implementation. 8-)

Nice but incomplete

#10 Postby jimvb » Tue Jun 21, 2005 6:27 am

This CNN animation harps on hurricanes and the magic number of 74 mph. I think Gaston was only a tropical storm, but I still think this graphic should have included Gaston and the tropical storms. As far as I am concerned, the hurricane season was tropical storm Gaston and tropical storm Gaston only. It caused major flooding in my metropolitan area (Richmond) and almost cost us one of our cars. We had seven named storms strike here in Virginia, and although Frances and Ivan produced tornadoes, tornadoes and even more tornadoes all over the place, 2004 will be remembered here as the Year of Gaston.

It was upgraded to Hurricane Gaston after reanalysis.

Where Charley made land fall is wrong, because also after going across FL,Charley stayed a hurricane until it hit SC,because the"eye" came across our house in North Myrtle Beach and I remember the cops coming to the house like 5 times to tell us to get out.
