I'm also getting some thunder and rain. Looks like I could really be getting hit good though in a little while.

We also got blasted by thunder, lightning, and periods of heavy rain here. The lightning flashes and thunder continued for more than an hour! I counted 20+ lightning flashes, and a lot of rumbles of thunder.

And I thought my last day at school was going to be nice!

Tim....same here! BRING THE STORM ON!!

Hey...I`m with Randy on this one. Sky did look a bit odd today. Anybody notice the clouds early this morning about 8:30 - 9a.m? Looked like anvil shaped clouds without the underside of the storm cloud. And guess what? They came off the Central Cascades and floated Westward!

Like some you other folks....I too saw lightning and heard some big booming thunder...AND...a couple nice distant, but bright lightning strikes about 2 - 3miles South of Molbaks in Woodinville. Also called the Seattle NWS to let them know about what I saw.
Active afternoon for sure!

Holy Moly...I am still shaking from that thunderstorm! Right after I posted we had a bolt of lightning that could not have been more than 100 yards away. The flash was so bright in my office that it totally overpowered the daylight and my overhead light. This will go down as one of my absolute favorite storms that I have ever seen. I actually remember the REALLY good ones.

This was a VERY RARE case where the marine push actually helped make the storm more severe. It appears there was a standoff between a hot easterly flow at the 850mb level and the cool SW wind trying to push in at the surface. It would seem that the most dramatic standoff was right near my area, because we actually had gusty NE surface winds just ahead of the storm. Once the storm set in the wind rapidly shifted to strong SW and lasted for about 5 minutes. There was surge of low clouds that came in underneath the storm that I must admit did scare me a bit. Those clouds looked amazingly ominous! I did manage to get a pic of those and hope to post them later. At one point, I got out in the open for a just a few seconds and was treated to an amazing display of branched lightning right over my head. Wow!

Well... .08 at the airport and its now all to the north.

Not much thunder or anything else here. My wife said she heard no thunder at her office in Bellevue.

Forecasted highs still near 70 degrees through the period. Which is what they were saying 2 days ago for the Wed-Sat period. This prompted Snow_Wizzard to say the NWS has no clue what they are doing!!!

Now they are correct??

Right now, I am more happy than disappointed. I would like to see Sea-Tac pick up more rain. The models seem to indicate more, so we'll see. I was saying the NWS was blind not picking up on the thunderstorms. Now who was right about that? :D

Incidentally, places very near Sea-Tac got a lot more rain...the luck of the draw! I still say the remainder of the month will average solidly below normal. The high today was only normal.

At 5:58pm we have a mild temp of 64 with DP at 63 and humidity 94%. So if I`m right, the temp actually feels like it`s in the very low 70`s.

Well... including today we are now only 1.5 degrees below normal for June.

Our average temperature has now climbed to almost 59.2 degrees and the average for June is 60.7 degrees.

If every day for the rest of the month FAILS to reach 70 degrees and the low temperature is in the low 50's we will STILL end up around 59.4 degrees and only 1.3 degrees below normal.

It is going to be very hard to end up 2.0 degrees or more below normal at this point. It will also be very hard to have an average lower than 59.0 degrees.

No extremes this month. Temperatures slightly cooler... rainfall around normal. I am not sure how that can be twisted into an ominous sign.

EVERY summer has some thunderstorms. The outbreak that night in June last year was much more impressive.

I believe today will end up at 2.5 degrees above normal.

4 degrees above on the low and 1 degree below on the high.

snow_wizzard wrote:Good grief...The NWS it terrible at predicting temperatures sometimes! There is absolutley, positively NO WAY it will be in the 70s Wednesday through Saturday. No way, no how...I think you could say I am sure about that!

Just a reminder. :D

Low 70's on Thursday at least... Friday as well.

Sea-Tac got more rain than most of the other official stations in Western Washington.

Most places had between .03 and .05 so I would say it was LUCKY that they got twice that amount!!

Not sure if its correct but the latest GFS shows almost no rain in the Seattle metro area for the rest of the month.

Should be around normal with some clouds and sun for the majority of the period between now and June 30th.

I give up TT...If you cannot see I was right about the thunderstorms, I am through trying to convince you. You are ridiculous!

You are one of the most bitter people I have ever run across.

I seem to remember that you said the thunderstorms were unlikely because the marine air would be too stable. Normally, a very good observation. The fact that didn't happen this time makes it unsual....In fact very very rare.

You seem to forget about all of the out whacked out indices this year. How in the Hell can you say this is a normal year. Good grief!

Do you realize this is the frikkin third wettest April - June on record for Sea - Tac.

HOW IS THAT NORMAL?
