Which state will see the most landfalls in 2005?

#1 Postby cycloneye » Tue Jun 21, 2005 7:50 pm

While we wait for Bret to form let's do another poll. This poll is a non-scientific one only to sample the members about where landfalls in the US will occur with more frequency.

Note=The options are not in alphabetical order.

Florida sticks out in my view and already had a start with Arlene and voted for it but not a repeat of 2004 in that state like having 2 hurricanes tracking almost at the same track.

Florida... mainly because of the Peninsula and the Keys, both of which stick out.

Florida will always be the obvious choice because of its location and statistics. It's always at greatest risk every year.

I think Louisiana has a very good chance of being hit this year.

I said Florida just because our butt sticks out in the water. I know statistically Florida gets hit the most often. I wonder how many hurricane season Florida has not been hit at all.

I should add that based on NCEP's analysis/forecast that a ridge would be
over the SE US most of the Summer, that will drive more storms back
towards MS/LA/TX

This is a toughie. The three getting the most votes are the somewhat obvious choices for reasons stated. NC and FL literally stick out in the way of storms. Texas has a very long coastline(yes I know FL does too!) and if the pattern sets up like I think it is then that long coastline may see a few hits this year. I hope not though!!

My vote is for Florida...with Texas a close second choice, and the Gulf coast from Alabama westward to Lousiana third...a hurricane into southern Florida will often end up landfalling again along the Gulf coast (i.e- Georges, Andrew, Betsy, Erin, Sept 1947, Sept 1926, Sept 1919).

Goodness...quite scary to see Florida's poll tally for sure...since after last season!!!

Guess those who voted FL reckon that state didn't receive enough punishment last year.
