News from Puerto Rico=Rare Tornado

AS THE AFTERNOON WORE ON...A CLUSTER OF STRONG THUNDERSTORMS
DEVELOPED ACROSS THE NORTHWEST CORNER OF PUERTO RICO. THE MOST
INTENSE SHOWERS AND STORMS AFFECTED PARTS OF AGUADILLA...MOCA AND
ISABELA. THE HARDEST HIT MUNICIPALITY WAS AGUADILLA...WHERE A BRIEF
TORNADO WAS REPORTED BY THE 911 EMERGENCY. THE TORNADO TOUCHED
GROUND OVER BARRIO GUERRERO...ALONG ROAD 472 NEAR THE 4.9 KILOMETER
MARK AROUND 2:20 PM. AS THIS WAS WRITTEN...THUNDERSTORMS CONTINUED
TO REDEVELOP OVER THE SAME AREA.

I say rare because not many tornados form over land here as waterspouts are much more common.I just got information that 6 houses were damaged but thankfully no injuries were reported.

Still the NW corner is with heavy precipitation and thunder.

Wow! I've never heard of a tornado in Puerto Rico!

Plenty of waterspouts, but never a tornado.

Good to hear no injuries, that's the best news.

I noticed at the pics from NRL that the area at NW Puerto Rico comes from 94L as it looks like a band that has formed to the NE side of 94L.

No problem for me as I am over 50 miles away from Isabela.

Unfortunately my PR geography is...well...lacking (I've been to San Juan - but that's it). Luis, how far was this tornado from you?

Tornados are realy scary - I mean....we can track hurricanes for days and days - but tornados and earthquakes really scare me (for they come without much warning at all).

Glad to hear that there were no injuries though.

Aguadilla is on the Northwestern Coast of Puerto Rico... north of Mayaguez and west of Isabela.

Tornadoes are very unusual. :eek:
