Well duh... This is certainly a byproduct of Walmarts assimilation. Walmart must be stopped at all costs.... I can't STAND shopping there. The stuff at Walmart is so CHEAP and by cheap I don't mean cost is low. Crappy meat, even crappier produce, crappy products in general, the absolute lowest quality everything, yet people flock to it in droves...
Walmarts treatment of its employees, especially its female workers (oh... associates) is deplorable for a company of its size. The products they buy to stock its shelves are often produced overseas with underpaid labor, offshored to people in China/Taiwan/Korea/India, etc. Anywhere as long as its cheap. Walmart bullies its suppliers to give lower prices, forcing companies out of business. Its wages are sub-par and they do not offer a reasonable living wage for anybody. If all that is left is Walmart than our standard of living goes down a few notches, while Walmarts pockets get fatter.
Winn-Dixie has simply failed to adapt. Publix on the other hand has carved out a niche, with high quality meats and produce, as well as specialty products and good food in general. Not to mention OUTSTANDING customer service. When I shop there (Publix) it certainly IS a pleasure. Case in point - I wondered aloud to my wife that I couldn't find the bags of peanuts in-shell. A Publix grocer heard me, put down his work, and came halfway down the aisle and led me to the peanuts (which were kept separately from the rest of the nuts). At Walmart, the stock drone couldn't be bothered (oh, I don't work in that department) to stop working for a microsecond, lest he be reprimanded for helping a customer.
BTW I don't much like Wally World...

The grocery business is very hard place to work for I know.16years of off and on.I worked at
Food lion
Harris-terr(sp)
A&P
Winn-Dixie
BI-LO
They all were very rough to work for!!!At A&P our manger would walk around with a traser and zap us with it if he felt we were moving to slow.I got smart fast on that job fast by bring in my father's 10in knife to the job.Foodlion I was told by the mangers to work off the clock to correct any mistake that I have done on that shift.I work for 5 hours on the clock, but 3 hours off the clock. That all stop when ABC news "Prime Time'came in.Harris-t well,I work there for one year until the manger called me a S#% of B*^8h and my father herd it and went after that manger!!!!BI-LO to much to list.Winn-Dixie really nothing but low pay.
Walmart is trying to kill off all the grocery stores so it can raise it prices.Me and my wife have measured from one Walmart to the next and it comes out to be 6.5 miles apart from each other.
But I am done with the grocery stores. The stress is to high.I have seen young men have strokes, heart attacks, and all it is a job!!Its time for me to enjoy life, spending time with friends, and most important spending time with my wife and little girl.It has been 2 weeks since I have quit my grocery stocking job and the stress is gone and I am so happy now.

Publix does rock. The one they built by my house in 2002 is one of the largest in the system. It is a pelasure to shop there. Now when I go to one of the older grocery stores, I can't imagine how we ever got along without our big Publix.

I too despise Wal-Mart, and rarely go in there even though it's within walking distance of my house. I generally only go in when it's late and I need something. Everything about the place is awful.

Wow...I grew up with Winn-Dixie...it was always a little dank and dingy, never compared to Publix...even back in the 80's....but there always was a Winn Dixie...
I too hate Wal_Mart...I hate their policies, I hate their products and they have the worst customer service in the business...we started boycotting Wal-Mart a long time and life IS good without Wal-Mart...lol!
Here where I live in So Cal, they haven't put in a "Super Wal-Mart"...which is nice...we have the best grocery chains in the country as far as I am concerned and I have lived all over...we have a lot of healthy wholesome foods stores and all of our stores have incredible presentation and selection...Think of Publix and bump it up about 10 notches...
Home of... Trader Joe's, Henry's Market, Ralph's, Von's and Stater Brother's.

In my area, Super Walmart rules the roost, big time. That's where all Winn-Dixie's customers went.
In my town, the opening of Super Walmart was the beginning of the end for Winn Dixie.

Has anyone seen the episode of South Park where the kids try to stop Wal Mart because it is taking over the entire town????
Wal Mart is a great place to shop if its 3am during the week because then it is empty except the weirdos walking around because they have nothing better to do!
Publix is great. During the day there are always nice older folks working and in the evenings there are always nice looking younger girls (a target rich environment for high school/college guys) and its such a bright and clean atmosphere. Winn Dixie is so dingy and dungeon like--uggh.

WD
WD is just too expensive. The starbucks coffee my daughter drinks--$6.99/4 pack vs Wallyworld 4.79. Charmin 8 pack double roll $799. Good grief. As much as I hate the WW experience, that is where I have to shop.
