That is the only thing I hate about traveling so far away in the summer, it would take me at least driving 24 hours straight threw to get back to Biloxi to hurricane proof my home....

Where in Michigan??? Just curious as that's my home state.

I really am going to Disney.....In September! OK, I am from
Florida so don't think I planned this trip. My cousin and his
family are from Georgia and they planned the trip.
We just said we would meet them there. Well, if we're
lucky, maybe we'll be between hurricanes...LOL.

I took off for a week of relaxation last September only to spend it boarding the house and fleeing Ivan. The kids were tired, the hotel room was dirty and I had to briefly go in to work. In spite of all that, I'm VERY grateful South Mississippi was spared Ivan's wrath and we returned to a home still standing!

The U.P. is really beautiful, but bug-ridden too. I don't go for very many summer vacations at all....and the last time I did, I got so many bug bites, I looked like I had the measles or poison ivy. Definitely bug spray will be a must for up there. Mackinaw City is a really beautiful area as well....one hour north of where I am when I'm not at school.

I've never been to the Thumb, so I can't really give any tips on tourism there.

Seems alot of folks enjoy Biloxi. I'll be going there for the week of the 4th of July. Then Im flying to Indianapolis which is my home town. Anybody ever been to Biloxi on the 4th of July? On the beach at night it can get kinda wild. 8-)

I love the summers in Michigan, I grew up in Michigan and the Michigan summers are the best... I wish I could say that for the winters... brrrr...

As for the comment about 4th of July on the Biloxi beach... well you are right it is pretty wild down there. Each man for himself. Alot of people have an arsenal of fireworks certainly not a place for real little kids or older folks with heart conditions! It looks like a war zone with all the smoke from personal fireworks being set off. You dont want to run barefoot through the sand until after the beach crews have cleaned it up you will definately get some puncture wounds from sparkler stinks, among other things. You can have all the dangerous fireworks you want down on the beach around small children, you can even bring your animals, but heaven forbid if you bring beer in the bottles and not the cans!! lol

dhweather,

No, sorry I dont know where Kid Rock lives lol... But I do know where the great 70's Detroit Rocker Bob Segar has a home in Michigan.. He has a place in Metamora, Michigan. It is on a Lake called who would have guessed Metamora. But I have never seen him and his home is like a fortress you can't even get within a 1/2 mile of it. IF I happen to see Kid Rock I will get you his autograph... if he doesnt punch me first lol

Man, I'd love to meet Segar, he's written some great music over the years.

I've actually met Bob Ritchie (aka Kid Rock), got the photo and autograph,
but thanks anyway! :D
