I actually just bought the collectors edition of Pulp Fiction. I think it's one of the greatest movies ever made. The banter back and forth between Travolta and Jackson is brilliant. they discuss everything from foot massages to hamburgers, in the Seinfeld tradition of meaningless drival of everyday life experiences. The beginning is the end, and how they get from A to B is mind blowing.

Now I know what detractors dislike about this movie, and I'm not one for superficial gore and language...but..I make an exception for this movie.

I am glad you posted about "Open Water" I had wanted to see that, but now will not.

I, too, hated Pulp Fiction, John Travolta gave me the willies in it.....I have known some characters like him before in my life and you know you get the feeling "something just ain't quite right about that person and this situation and hall a$$" and make a point not to be around that person again......yuk, just thinking about it gives me the ickies...

Oh thank goodness I'm not alone in this anti-PF opinion I have Mary! I will respect that others enjoy this film and it did resurrect John Travolta's career. So that was a good thing. I just didn't like how lightly murder was depicted. When they blew the guy away in the back seat and then ate McD's afterwards. Didn't someone have brains in their hair? It was just gross! Sorry, don't get it to those that do. Shawn/Duckie shares our opinions too.

Open Water....well, the ending is what gets everyone apparently (I've read a slew of posts over at the Internet Movie Database site). Since there's a story, you assume it's fairly factual. It isn't! And the ending is very sad. Definitely not a popcorn kind of movie as someone else said.

At first, I thought I was going to have to come here and add a surprise to the list. But, for the most part, it redeemed itself when I got to Volume 4.

I rented "ER - Season One" last night. The problem is that it isn't in letterbox/widescreen format. So, everyone is all squinched together and narrowed. Plus, since I rented, there's no labelling on the box or disks, so I didn't know how many eps were on each disk and which ones were on them. In addition to that, I'd have to pop them out of the DVD and flip them over to play the second side. I'd already seen the bloopers, so that was nothing special.

But then, I found "Love's Labor Lost" on Volume 3 with the commentary. That rocked!

So, if you find "ER - Season One" on DVD where you can rent it, get Volume 4 to see bloopers and all the other special extras, get Volume 1 if you want to see the pilot and the pilot commentary, and get Volume 3 if, like me, you loved "Love's Labor Lost" and want to see the commentary. By far, that was the best.

OMG - I have to see that commentary! I just watched it with my daughter Laura, we recorded it a few weeks ago on TNT. She asked me if the mother dies, since I guess I was making a huge deal of it. Had to tell her the truth, or errr fiction, as it was. I would be very interested in hearing that commentary. Because after it aired, I remember many people talking about it - how that just couldn't happen in a big city ER. Remember when Mark pushed the baby back in, I was on the edge of my seat, both times - years ago and now. Crossing my legs at the same time....it was SO intense!

BTW, I HIGHLY recommend getting the Seinfeld DVD's that are out, of the first 3 seasons. They kick butt! I still laugh my butt off every time I watch them with my stepdad.

Rented National Treasure on PPV last night. Good flick! Not a major action flick by most standards. But it was fun (like Alicia said waaaaaay back) to watch and guess some of the clues they found (I knew what "Silence Dogood" meant ). It was one of those kick-back-and-relax-for-a-couple-of-hours kinds of movies. Entertaining....

I'll remember this movie Shawn. Sometimes it's so tempting to stay home, going the PPV route. So easy!

We've recently watched I Heart the Huckabees (don't know how else to type that b/c on the DVD box there's a heart). It's a bit odd, lighthearted, has Dustin Hoffman and Lillie Tomlin in it. Along with Jude Law and Mark Wahlberg. It's a nice escape. Makes you want to ride a bike to work or at the very least carpool! Or nurture a tree and question everything.

We rented Almost Famous again. My kids love this movie! I highly recommend it. Has Kate Hudson and Frances McDormand in it. Another escape, this time to the past (early 70s, rock music).

We want to see the Aviator next. Anyone see it yet? I'm sure someone has since it's been out a while.

Yup, it's "I Heart Huckabees" on the PPV listing. IMDB.com has it as IHH and "I Love Huckabees" also, since the heart is generally considered to mean "love" on things like these:

Never, ever, ever rent "Dreamcatcher". I should have known better when I saw a few characters from the old Jay and Silent Bob flicks ("Clerks" fame), but I went ahead and got it anyway.

To say that the writers were overly infatuated with their... um... body waste expelling processes would be an understatement. Complete with a name being written in the snow.

I really should make a list and keep it in the car and/or wallet. Just when you're in the mood to rent a movie you forget all the good titles. Or the ones to avoid.

If you rent more than a handful of movies a month, I'd suggest trying Netflix. I've been a member since January, and I don't know how we ever lived without it!

I was going to recommend Blockbuster. I think the only difference is with Blockbuster is you get 2 free rentals at a Blockbuster per month. We watch about 3 movies a week, and it ranges from new movies (National Treasure) to old (Casablanca).

We're sporadic with movie watching. We might go weeks w/o watching a single one. Then in the span of a week or more, watch 3. That's why we just rent as we watch or buy PPV. But thanks for the suggestion. During the school year, we're into regular TV shows, so many they seem to dominate our viewing. The only 'current' show I've got going is Lost. Trying to watch it all the way thru to understand it all - only watched a few episodes and I was really confused.

What my teenage daughters fall into also is wanting to rent or eventually purchase their favorite movies - the ones you can watch over and over again, never getting bored.

I have, and my husband and I both enjoyed it. Cate Blanchette's accent gets a bit annoying and I found it a bit difficult to understand her some of the time But maybe thats just me. A good entertainment movie as well.

I watched the house of flying daggers as well..... umm.... unless you watch it with the subtitles, the english dubbing is ATROCIOUS! The girl in the lead is beautiful to watch in the fight scenes though, the fluidity of her movements is really something. As for the rest of it. Not so hot!

I really enjoyed Spanglish as well.. lots of hidden themes, so although it tends to be a romantic comedy there is a lot of thought provoking ideas thrown in as well.

As for open water, I think I got up and had a shower and when I got out those folks had not moved much! Waste of money for me to be
honest.

Some of the movies I have enjoyed these past few months: Meet the Fockers... Love the dog in the toilet!
Ladder 49, has sooo many genre facets, worth every cent.
Oceans 12, a fun movie and just as enjoyable as the first (some nice Brad drooling moments as well )
Lemony Snicket, to be honest the trailer was better in the long run than the movie itself.
Phantom of the Opera, WARNING, unless you are fully aware that this in in fact a musical with a lot of "sung" dialog dont rent it! I loved it.. hubby fell asleep
Manchurian Candidate. Excellent movie. The plot really keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Collaterol. Also a grab the edge of your seat flick. Really enjoyed it.
Flight of the Phoenix. I liked this movie, it was a little different and even has a cameo roll by a guy I used live next door to in South Africa! whoopie
Sideways, Im still uncertain as to if I actually did enjoy this movie or not. I think it was a bit slow but some parts were ok.
National treasure, I enjoyed. Kinda like indiana jones, but a sweet movie to watch.

I could go on and on, I watch at least 2-3 dvd's a weekend.

Ladder 49 was very good. I also enjoyed National Treasure and Lemony Snicket. Hotel Rowanda is a good movie, but sad. The Notebook - I cannot say enough about that one, I loved it! The Village I thought was good. I didn't expect the twist in that one.
