Man accused of using Marine's identity to get job

05:45 PM CDT on Thursday, June 23, 2005

Associated Press

BATON ROUGE -- A Houston man was indicted Thursday on federal felony charges alleging he used the identity of a Marine now serving in Iraq to get and keep a job.

Mauricio Perez Perez, 28, was charged by a grand jury with aggravated identity theft, illegal use of a Social Security and impersonating a U.S. citizen. U.S. Attorney David Dugas said the charges were the first to be brought in Baton Rouge federal court under the Identity Theft Penalty Enhancement Act, which was passed last year.

The grand jury said Perez used the Marine's Social Security number and driver's license to get a job in Baton Rouge and keep the job.

The charges carry a mandatory minimum sentence of two years in prison and a maximum of 10 years, Dugas said. Perez also could be fined up to $500,000 if convicted of all the charges.

Since he wants to impersonate a MArine why not send him to Camp Lejuene and then Iraq? Sounds like fitting punishment to me ;-)

I agree. Call it a work release program. They send kids to boot camp, send him to the real one.
