Is this really from Yahoo? It has an attachment and Norton says "No virus found" but I'm not going to open it unless I know for sure it's from them.

Dear Yahoo Member,

Your e-mail account was used to send a huge amount of unsolicited spam messages during the recent week. If you could please take 5-10 minutes out of your online experience and confirm the attached document so you will not run into any future problems with the online service.

If you choose to ignore our request, you leave us no choice but to cancel your membership.

Virtually yours,
The Yahoo Support Team

I haven't received this message yet, but what I would do is copy it and forward it to Yahoo! itself. It's probably asking for your personal information, etc. DON'T OPEN IT, but let Yahoo! know about it right away!.

If you want to get an answer ASAP, call the customer service number to ask about your account status and let them know about the e-mail.

I wish I could help you, but that's confusing me as well.

It's from admin@yahoo.com but other than that, it's not obvious that it's authentic. No special heading or anything.

Oh and another thing... it went to Bulk Mail and actually came in on Thursday.

Ignore it, it's a spoofed email.

Scroll down in this thread and you'll find the exact same text, but from a Spanish-in-Action.com email.

I strongly strongly advise not to open it.

I got a e-mail labeled "Online User violation" once that was a virus and this sounds a lot like that one.

I would call the customer service number just to be sure though.

I hate when I say "ignore it," when that's not really what I mean. :)

IOW, don't open it the attachment.

Got 2 of these in my bulk mail this morning:

Dear Yahoo Member,

We have temporarily suspended your email account (Address)

This might be due to either of the following reasons:

1. A recent change in your personal information (i.e. change of address).
2. Submiting invalid information during the initial sign up process.
3. An innability to accurately verify your selected option of subscription due to an internal error within our processors.
See the details to reactivate your Yahoo account.

Sincerely,The Yahoo Support Team

More of the same spam gibberish.

Copy a section of the email text, paste it into your Yahoo search engine, tack quotation marks on the beginning and end, and then hit the Search button. You'll find lots of hits of the same phrasing from non-Yahoo "support" people. It's all spam and/or spreading a worm.

Delete it if you can't forward it to the Yahoo abuse team.

BTW, I sent you an email from my Yahoo account. If you get it, it verifies for you that your account hasn't been suspended. :)

Oh yeah, you mentioned that the fake Yahoo mail went to your bulk folder. Don't mess with the bulk mail...it's almost always junk. I open the folder to look through the list just to be sure there's nothing from someone I *know.* (It happens every once in a blue moon.) Other than that, bulk mail seems to be nothing but spam and junk. Yahoo mail does a good job of sorting out the crud from the cream. I used to have AOL and couldn't stand how much spam I'd have to sort through just to get the handful of true email. Now, it's not a problem with the spam filters that Yahoo has. :)
