question for the board

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

question for the board

#1 Postby Derek Ortt » Tue Jun 28, 2005 9:26 pm

Just a quick question for everyone here

I am wonderuing if you all wait until I post the links to the forecasts, or if you just visit the site anyways. The reason that I ask is that due to RAINEX commitments later in the year, I will not always be able to post the links to the forecasts (either because I have a briefing to give, if I am not the forecaster on duty and am fast asleep, or if I am flying into a hurricane). I'll try my best to post the links, but just alerting everyone that it is not always possible, so I am wondering how many wait until I post, or just visit on your own

I usually do... although if it were a major system bearing down on the coast(i.e. Charley, Frances, Ivan, Jeanne) I would go to the site. For a storm like Bret-I wouldn't.

another reason I say this is that the storm updates (for the non meteorologists and in non-technical format... similar to a public advisory from NHC, but a totally different format) are issued far more frequently, like just now, but I dont post the link for each and every one of those (these tend to be more popular for those visiting the site who are not mets or weather enthusiasts)

Hi Derek, long time....(last cane season)haha.....I have your site still bookmarked and usually check it out along with everything else available to me. Specially since I still haven't figured out how to read these maps and all, let alone figured out a trough from a sheer.I just leave the work up to you guys who are in the know. :sun:

Derek, I used to wait for you to post about the links because I'm interested in what you have to say but when I don't see you do it for awhile I've been going to the site on my own.

I used to follow the links until I could remember the address without thinking too hard. Now I usually go over there once or twice a day when there's something interesting out there.

Honestly I tend to wait and grab your links from Storm2K. Maybe you could dub someone your apprentice, someone who typically monitors your site regularly, to post the links for us lazier Storm2kers when you're otherwise occupied...

a heads up to those who wait again

there will be many instances starting in mid Aug where no link is going to be posted for the reasons I stated above. Also, I am not sure yet, but there may be a format change to the forecasts as well (I have not given this much thought, depends upon how these will be used later on for purposes totally unrelated to S2K)

I usually wait until you post the link, but now I know you may indeed be busy I will just go to the site directly if you have not posted by the time I log on.

I wait until you post the link, then go right to the site. Its a great reminder. I have like 50 million weather related favorites, and I usually don't have time to get to all the good ones, so if I pass by any easy link, I'm there.

I use the links you post, but since you've told us how busy you'll be I've just gone ahead and bookmarked your site so I can check it on my own.
