No way that can't be real! I thought I had seen impressive mammatus clouds before until now. That is truly amazing, most have been a very strong storm nearby.

Well it does say, "Three of these photos were featured on the front and back cover of the Journal of Meteorology
and circulated in 26 countries." at the top. That lends some credibility to the validity of the photos.

Those clouds are so neat looking. Don't think i've ever seen a cloud like that. Exactly what is a mammatus cloud and what causes it to form like that?

Haha completely looks fake! But that just seems like too difficult of a picture-edit to pull off. Wouldn't want to be under those clouds!

I don't think so. I don't see any repeats in the picture. I have seen similar before and after thunderstorms.

I've seen similar displays, but not quite as impressive as those! Sometimes, when out chasing, I'll be struck by a particular display of cloud structure, be it mammatus, a rotating cloud base, or even a tornado, and think to myself, "This looks fake, and if I saw this in a photograph, I might think it was fake", but it is, in fact, real.

I remember that specific day. (Hastings is about 2.5 hours WSW of where I lived at the time, now about 3 hours.)

Even out in the SW suburbs of Omaha, we had some pretty wicked storms that evening. We did get a few rounds of hail, but nothing larger than golfball sized. We also had some nice mammatus, but it was NOTHING compared to what Hastings saw.
