Might be a hint of some turning south of Jamaica

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Might be a hint of some turning south of Jamaica

#1 Postby tw861 » Fri Jul 01, 2005 9:28 am

There's not a lot of visible shots available yet but there appears to be some turning in the clouds just to the south of Jamaica. JB mentioned the area around 16.0/77.5 but to me it appears to be a little further north than that.

Could be in the mid levels or could be nothing. I'm using the NASA msfc site for the loop I'm running, you can get better zooms over the area you want imo.

Tough to tell, but it looks more mid-level than surface to me.

About 2/3 of a twist - I don't see a closed circulation as of yet. And it does seem to be mid-level rather than surface.

I'm seeing it just south of the western tip of Jamaica, is that where you are looking? And I agree, it may not be completely closed off but it looks to be heading that way. Probably mid level.

Yeah, about a degree or a so south of western Jamaica.

Looking less convincing right now than it was earlier this morning, though.

Nothing to write home about, yet. :-)

I'd call it a half-twist.

Should we score it, like dives in the olympics? :D

Some kind of rotation is visible SW of Jamica, moving westward or slightly north of west.

I don't see it anylonger. I saw it this morning, but not anymore. Maybe my eyes aren't trained enough.

I can see it better on enhanced.....and new convection is beginning to fire to the west side of it. Probably doesn't mean much though.
