Your Worse Pain
Moderator: S2k Moderators
My worst pain... Probably when I was 7 years old, on this playground at my dad's company party... I climbed through this little space that I wasn't supposed to... And some older teenager jumped from above me, kicking me in the head with his spiked cowboy boots. Made a nice puncture in my head. I thought I had been shot. My mother still talks about this to this day...

I've been diagnosed with Degenerative Disk Disease in the lower back, L4-L5-L6 are going QUICK. I have to live on pain meds, of course, when I'm on duty, I have to suffer through the whole shift without them. I am a canidate for Disk Replacement surgery but to be honest, I DO NOT want someone screwing with my Vertabre or disks, I don't care HOW good the surgeon is, one slip, one "OPPS" and I'd be DONE with for life! I'll just suffer and continue to medicate myself thank you!

You guys are soooooo bad today!
My husband had an emergency appendectomy after a 12 hour span of what he thought was severe heartburn. I see others have had severe pain from this type surgery too. Turns out of course he needed surgery. Even though the incision was 2 inches long, he had severe pain from it. He spent one night in the hospital (1998), now they do the surgery via laparscopy as an out-pt., but they offered him another night's stay. He wanted to come home in the worst way but what we discovered (and I paid close attention to for my surgeries just one year later), once they remove the IV and you switch to pill form pain meds, they are not rapid. Sometimes it takes 20 to 30 minutes to kick in. Let me just say that the first 24 hours he was officially home and needed help, was very rough. Back then our children had parents who focused on THEM all the time. Suddenly I was a post-op nurse and our kids were underfoot. The wild and crazy scene with me running out into the hall shouting comes to mind - "be quiet, if I hear one more word out of you two, you'll be severely punished (read, no TV for a week, grounding, etc.) and don't call me unless there's blood!" The look on their faces....oh my, I know I shocked them. They didn't even eat dinner until 9 that night they say now - well, kids sometimes that just has to happen.....after it all was all over, Jim finally admitted - now why didn't I stay 2 nights?

PS - I still wonder why my surgeon didn't remove my appendix while under. I hope mine never ruptures or needs to come out!

No, really...I have degenerative disc disorder in C-3-4-5, T-5, and L-3-4-5. The cervical vertebrae have bone spurs "digging" into the discs. I also have heavyweight arthritis in both rotator cuffs (shoulders), both hips, carpal tunnel both hands, and enlarged heart/pulmoinary artery disorder.
Dennis, I cannot take the pain Rx you have, because it's contraindicated by the Rx I take for DSS, anxiety dosorder and dysthemia (low-grade consistent depressive state).
You guys/gals can't imagine this extensive pain, 24/7...and I can't describe it adequately. And, yes...$cientology and those who buy into it? They don't have a clue.

I have have migraines that have lasted a week. Also bilateral pulmonary emboli (blood clots in my lungs) and that hurt like h$ll. I could breathe without pain, I couldn't walk without pain, I couldn't do anything without pain. It was a really bad time. The kicker was the emboli were a result of medication, wonderful side effect, eh?

Wow - how to choose just one!
1. Spinal headache for 7 days following a botched myelogram.
2. 2 cervical spine fusions complete with titanium plates.
3. Open hysterectomy - thank God I only had one uterus.....
4. Gallbladder, appendix and 2 foot bowel resection.
5. Numerous small bowel obstructions - now THERE'S some real fun.
Edited to add:
6. Rotator cuff repair. The rehab is unbelievably painful.

I am going to try my best to keep this PG.
Basically, back in 8th grade (1996) I had a torsion of some particular urological/reproductive organs.
It was more than "Ouch"; it was "YEOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWW".
I was on spring break the week prior, and this occurred early in the morning on the day school resumed. To make a long (painful) story short, I had another week and one day of spring break due to my FIRST surgury EVER!!
The pain got so intense, I went to my physician, then to a specialist and finally the hospital all in two days. I had to get the condition fixed, but the prospect of surgury scared me to death!
Thankfully, everything went well. The doctors, nurses, etc, were all very kind and understanding.
The pain from the condition is something I will remember for a LONG time!
Otherwise, I have not broken any bones/sprained anything. A more recent pain (not as major or evasive as my surgury) happened several years ago at work. I was helping a customer out to her vehicle with her groceries. After thanking the customer, I closed the car door; unfortunately, my finger had not moved!
Needless to say, I was not working for about a week.
Nothing broke, thankfully!

Broken ribs - breathing was painful and I don't want to even talk about the pain of sneezing or coughing. YIKES (new shoes on carpeted steps)
Childbirth - quickly forgotten cause of the precious gift
Want more??? Hey I'm 60 how much time do ya have??????? jk
Mental pain
Death of my Dad, my Gram, my fiance. I think mental pain is the worst kind of pain.
