I'm just curious. Can anyone identify this feature? I saw this and I almost freaked, WTF is that?

It's convection blowing up near the center of the storm.

Just a burst of convection. It looks to be blowing up right on top of or near the center. She may be on her way to hurricane status.

Thought aliens landed or something. OK, I've just never seen such a thing quite as well defined before.

I assume that would be towering cloud tops forming a circular (as seen from the satellites perspective) pattern. I think it looks so well defined because the sun is setting and casting a shadow to its right. :) Those must be some seriously high clouds.

It's where the government secretly dropped a nuclear bomb in the
storm rying to blow it up. :D

Seriously, that's just a big blow up of convection - a massive thunderstorm near the center.

It's quite possibly hurricane force winds...that's one big explosion of storms near the center.

Exactly - that area probably has the strongest winds in the storm this minute.

http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/PS/TROP/DATA/RT ... -loop.html

If it does represent the center (unlike the base reflexivity-sp?- everyone's been posting), does it make primary landfall in Lafourche, Jefferson or Plaquemines Parish?

That's a heavy duty line of persistant thunderstorms to the east of the LLC. Somebody's in for some big rain totals.
