Initial damage reports coming in via local news
The morning news crews are starting to report about Cindy's wrath:
From WDSU 6--
Trees down in Metairie
Lafourche Parish: Leeville bridge is impassible (several shrimp boats tied together floated uncontrolled down the bayou and two of them wedged under the bridge). A couple of buildings have collapsed.
Entergy says 250K homes without power in Grand Isle, Plaquemines and Terrebone parishes, etc.
Bay St. Louis: very windy, they were having trouble keeping a live feed.
A lot of people seem to have been surprised by the intensity of Cindy and I bet there's going to be some fingerpointing--whether warranted or not--at local EOC, news stations, NHC, you name it, afterwards.

More reports via WDSU/WLOX/Fox 8
Helena Morena broadcasting from Bay St. Louis says that's where the 2nd landfall will be. Cindy is currently 25 miles ENE of New Orleans, moving NE at 14 mph, max winds 60 mph. Rain is blowing sideways there.
St. Bernard Parish closed for incoming/outgoing traffic...per local Homeland Security director.
Causeway is under full restrictions (no motorcycles, glass-carrying trucks).
Huge trees down in Metairie, Gretna, Algiers, Kenner, downtown NOLA.
Major street flooding in Gretna.
Home flooding in Luling.
Lots of flooding in low-lying Long Beach and Gulfport MS roads. Tons of summer/bible school and business closures. All flights out of Gulfport cancelled except one Continental flight this morning.
Crap, the power keeps blinking. I may not be on much longer

More from WDSU/WLOX:
Entergy guy reminds everyone that Cindy was 70 mph sustained, with hurricane force gusts and that's why the power/damage situation is what it is.
Hancock Cty: Lakeshore to Bayou Caddy flooded. Most low-lying streets flooded in Waveland, BSL, Lakeshore areas.
Large pecan tree falls on and destroys trailer in St. Bernard parish, no one hurt. 16-year-old occupant gives very expressive demonstration of what it sounded like.
One guy in St. Bernard went to get ice, and his daughter came running and said a tree had fallen on her car windshield. He went back with her to check it out, went home and called the cops to make a report, and then went back for ice again. He forgot about the fallen tree on his daughter's car and drove through it. Whoops.
Northrup Grumman workers to work as scheduled (from WLOX, I assume this is for the Pascagoula Shipyard).
Many summer school, daycare, and business closures in Louisiana.
St. Bernard parish closed until 10 or 11 AM.
Lots of downed powerlines in Plaquemines.

WLOX is making me mad--WDSU started their morning report at 4:30 AM. WLOX is waiting until 5:00 AM even though Cindy's center hitting us RIGHT NOW. The info I've gotten from them is from an info bar at the bottom of the screen. To top it off, it's Carrie Duncan at the weather helm this morning.

have they reported 2nd landfall, yet? by radar it looks like it happened around biloxi/gulfport, maybe?? our local news is just doing hourly updates til 5:30 when morning news starts.
WDSU is saying that she's just about to make landfall into Bay St. Louis/Pass Christian.
Ok, they just changed that to around Gulfport.

WDSU interviewing BSL mayor Eddie Favre (yes they're related). He states it hasn't been too bad so far, but that we're supposed to get the worst between 5 and 7 AM. Starting to get tidal flooding on the beach. Appears to be one isolated street with power outage, the rest of the city is ok. SO FAR.
Yow, we just got another big gust. Time to whip out the camera!

Numerous trees and powerlines are down across Hwy 59 south of St. Abita Springs this morning.
New Orleans Airport reported a gust to 70 mph earlier this morning.
Stay safe everyone! It isn't over yet.
