What are the Dyn-o-gel folks doing?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

What are the Dyn-o-gel folks doing?

#1 Postby jrod » Wed Jul 06, 2005 10:22 am

Alright, I have a hunch that no one on this forum or any real meteorologists take that stuff seriously but I have to ask, Are they going to attempt to dump the stuff on Dennis?

The dynogel stuff keeps coming up in the news before every hurricane with some business man who claims he gots the stuff that can weaken hurricanes and durring and after the hurricane we hear nothing about them. I posted on a topic about this stuff on here earlier in the year and the news link says his crew planned on trying to destroy a storm this year. With Dennis almost certainly going to be a GoM monster, you have to wonder if they are going to try. While I highly doubt the stuff will work, heck it could even backfire and help fuel the storm, if they are trying the stuff out I for one would like to know they are doing it. Also it would be beneficial for the meteorological society to know when they go out just in case it actually works and we can see what affect it has on a storms dynamics.

I think it is impossible to do anything significant to storms the scale of hurricanes with the method the dynogel people propose. The driving force behind these storms of course is warm water and low pressure and no magic powder can neutralize that.

I wonder if the guy has completed a thorough EIS - Environmental Impact Study.

He's just wanting his 15 minutes and is blabbing about things he has
no comprehensive knowledge of.
