I found a great tool for those of us who live well inland. I live in Baton Rouge, and I was wondering what type of wind I could expect if Dennis were to make landfall in my area. I found the following on the NHC website: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/aboutmeow.shtml
I don't know if it's been posted before, and I'm sure many have already seen it, but I found it to be informative and it answered my question.

I know with Andrew landfalling west of here and moving due north fairly quickly here in BR we got about 70-74 mph winds. Quite a bit of damage and power outages. But Hurricane Betsy was the last time BR got Hurricane force winds sustained.
