Dennis wind speed increasing????

Looking at the satellite imges, Dennis is making a more noticeable northenly jig, as well as the eye being visible on IR. Maybe NHC will have to raise the wind speed forcast at 8PM, and raise current wind speed. I think that this storm is going through a rapid intensification!

It looks nice. I'm not sure they'll raise the winds unless they get a recon report.

With all due respect, rapid intensification requires a pressure drop of 1.75 mb/hr for 24 hours, or 42 mb in a day.

In the last 19 hours Dennis has strengthened from 1000 mb to 985, a drop of 15 mb, or about 0.8 mb/hr.

If Dennis drops to 958 mb by 0300Z, then rapid intensification is confirmed. If the pressure is below 970 at that time, then it's time to start to monitor closely for rapid or explosive deepening.

so youre saying you have to wait for 24 hours to say that it is rapidly intensifying? He wasnt saying that by "definition" its rapidly intensifying, he was saying that in the last few hours it had been.

that is exactly what I was saying. I wasn't going on definition, but on what the storm has done in past 5 hours. It looks like on latest sat. image that this expansion and sat. visual intensification is continuing.

If you look at the latest ir loop a clear eye wall is definetely forming, the cdo even looks just like the hurricane symbol.

I agree after just looking at the Sat. NHC might go ahead and raise to 85 at 11. Key word there: Might.

Diddo, 100 would not suprise me, but NHC has been conserving on raising wind speed
