This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Valid question.

There are 360 degrees in a circle, equidistant.

0 degrees = north.
90 degrees = east.
180 degrees = south.
270 degrees = west.

360 degrees is the same as 0 degrees, north.

45 degrees = NE
135 degrees = SE
225 degrees = SW
315 degrees = NW

so 300 degrees is a bit north of due west. WNW actually.

Having an eye won't help much, since it'll still wobble around.

Hurricanes wobble but they don't fall down. :lol:

The 8:00 and especially the 11pm coordinates will settle this issue. It still loooks to me after coming back to it a couple hours later that Dennis is moving more 305 and will move just north of Jamaica Mon.

0/360 = North
90 = East
180 = South
270 = West

45 = NE
135 = SE
225 = SW
315 = NW

think of a compass with 0-359 numbers.

I was fortunate enough to have been born with a strong internal compass. Seldom do I not know which direction I'm going good weather or bad, day or night. When someone tells me any degree on the compass, I instantly know exactly what direction that is.

The 16 points of the compass are nice for those who don't have that, but lucky me, I don't need them.

Same for me fortunately, since we spend a huge amount of time offshore. My wife, on the other hand, couldn't find north with a compass. If anything ever happened to me while offshore, thank god we have a GPS, otherwise I am not sure my wife could use the compass to get back.

Well if I read these correctly, it's gone .3N and .4W since 5pm would assumeingly mean more of a northward component than previously ? And slowing too, down to 13 MPH.

not much need in focussing in on the short term movements, 4-5 hours north....4-5 hours west....the overall motion is NW, correct?

When a storm slows down doesn't that mean that its starting to turn.

overall motion has been WNW ever since the beginning. every year we go through the same thing with the same people. don't microanalyze storm movement. look at general trends. 2 hours of "OMG IT"S MOVING NW" is not a trend.
