The CMC,Gfs,Nogaps all show that there is going to be a developing low over the next few days. The models show a northwest to west-northwest movement.

You know there *are* ppl who love the Thrill of experience of a TS/Hurricane...it gives them an adrenline rush....its something to behold...its an incredible experience....having said this, i have much sympathy for those in florida who suffered with all they recieved last year

Because fish:

1) Don't hurt anyone, although they may shake up a tuna or two
2) Don't cost people their lives
3) Don't cause damage to people's homes and businesses
4) Don't cause economic problems
5) Don't cause insurance rates to soar
6) Are pretty to look at from afar


The landfallers, they are a pain in the collective public's keister no matter how exciting they might be.

as i said, i lived through a Hurricane in the 70's in New York and also Gloria in 85, although it had died down a little by the time it reached us.....and as a Weather Buff, its just an amazing experience....i always say, i'd love to have a Big Cat 5 Storm bearing down on my Town wohoooooooooo

There was a time when I felt that way. I will have to admit, I was pumped up, although worried, when Charley came through. During the long period of no power, using the chainsaw for hours on end, and just the chaos afterward, my view began to change. Also, watching the water level rise slowly up to your front door is no picnic. We were spared flooding of our home, but the ground is so wet now, I am not so sure we would be that lucky again. Following the third storm, I was just plain over it.

Here we are a year later with outrageous insurance premiums, and the fear of getting canceled if we get hit again. We just this week finally got a huge oak tree that was battered during Charley taken care of. It would have surely come down on the house if it had to go through another storm. Window coverings are ready to be put up(we have become quite good at that), generator is ready for the season, a weeks worth of gas for the generator is already bought, pantry stocked, etc., and the thrill and excitement of another storm possibly hitting during this season is missing totally.

If I need a thrill/rush, I'll start jumping out of perfectly good airplanes again, and hope that we are left alone. Wishful thinking, but oh well, gotta hope.

it sounds like you've been through Hell
someone has said that they think alot of the CV Systems are going to be Fish this year, but as of right now, that would just a guess on their part....we're not anywhere close to the height of the Season and we have no idea how the Pattern is going to set up...if that High stays in Place..i think we'll have alot of LandFallers this year
We'lre already 4 for 4 and Emily, if it in fact, becomes Emily, may make Five, we'll just have to wait and see
As far as my Wish for a Cat 5 Storm here, i know it would never happen, the Climate up here just isn't conducive for that...perhaps a 1 or 2 maybe....Although Hurricane Donna in 1960, i think it was...maintained Major Intensity all the way up the Eastern Seaboard.....WOW incredible!

Wow! I am simply amazed at this discussion. Amazed!

I really don't even know how to respond, but feel compelled to do so, nonetheless.

Hurricanes are magnificent examples of nature that I have been mesmerized by for most of my life, much like sharks. I want to study them, learn more about them, and understand them. This is because they are incredible to me.

That in no way implies that I want to put anyone's personal safety or property in harm's way in order to observe them. We need to have respect for the power of nature and to wish that on anyone or anywhere implies a lack of understanding of the true power that hurricanes contain.

Perhaps it is beause I grew up on the Gulf Coast, and my benckmark was Camille from early childhood, but I never wanted to "experience" a hurricane on the ground (Maybe from one of the hurricane hunter planes). I know the "thrill" is not worth the cost in life and property. That does not mean that they will ever cease to amaze and "thrill" me, but I agree that I prefer the ones that end up being "fish".

Please don't wish the devesation of a major landfalling hurricane on anyone.

I understand exactly where you are coming from, I was just like you once, and can relate. I've just sort of changed my point of view a tad. You have fun tracking the progress, and get as excited and caught up in the moment as you want. There is not a thing wrong with that at all. I would love to feel the same excitement, it would sure make hurricane season a lot more enjoyable
